The Butterfly...

in CCC4 years ago (edited)

I like looking at them.
The life ones, are nice to look at when they fly by. But I do not like them flying by too close. And I get the creeps looking at their head and legs. They are insects after all and as much as I respect all living beings, I am not keen with insects. I prefer to admire their beauty from afar.

When I was growing up, I was told that when butterflies flap their wings, they release some powder that can blind the eyes, which is why, I keep my distance from them. I am not sure how true this is, maybe it was a myth to keep us kids away from trouble.

When I see a butterfly, I rarely get the chance to take a photo of them because by the time I get my camera ready, the butterfly would have flown away, except....

... for this one time that I managed to... The Butterfly.

I chased it as far as I could...

And just one more shot before it flew away.

These are the only photos I have taken of a butterfly using my Canon IXUS 970IS.

I like butterfly motives in fabric, jewellery and mostly anything. I have a butterfly ring and a butterfly brooch but the brooch has gone missing since I moved. I also have a butterfly jewellery box and butterfly hair clips which are very convenient to keep my fringe away from disturbing my face. Butterflies do look elegant and exquisite as a symbol of beauty.

All right, upvoted and reblogged your post to thousand followers.. Thank you so much to choose @puncakbukit as witness and curator.

Thank yoU!

Your butterfly is beautiful. Even if you feel repulsion from insects, they will always be necessary in the environment. It's good that you live in an apartment, so you stay away from everything that scares you of them. There are people allergic to them, to the dust they release when they fly. Thank you for your friend post @marblely.

Ah, ¿entonces liberan polvo y los ciegos pueden ser verdad? Jeje, sí ... los apartamentos son agradables es ese sentido, pero extraño la libertad de tener un pájaro cantando cerca o una ardilla corriendo.

Ah so they do release dust and the blindless can be true? Hehe yah.. apartments are nice is that sense but I do miss the freedom of having a bird singing nearby or a squirrel running pass by.

My dear @marblely, when we touch the butterflies with our hands the damage is caused by us, the human beings to the butterflies. Because that dust contained in their wings protects them. They only cause irritation to the respiratory tract and eyes, to people who are allergic. But not to the point of leaving anyone blind.

It is beautiful @marblely. Same with me, I had a hard time chasing the butterfly from our garden this morning, just to get a decent shot. Hahaha! 😁😂 But I was a good exercise nevertheless.

Hmmm, that is interesting. We were also told as young children that butterfly wings can make us blind. That made me think. Hahaha! 😁😂🤔

Hehe.. there is always a positive! I hardly see butterflies nowadays and the photos I took was from some time ago. Better than nothing :D
Oh wow.. You were told the same thing too? @gertu has debunked the myth :)

@marblely hahaha someone will have to appear and testify that he was blinded with a butterfly. In my years as a doctor I never saw a patient blinded by butterflies. And here in my city when I was little we used to run behind the butterflies. There were many. We grab them with our hands and never wash our hands in forecast . Until I grew up and I found out that I had to wash my hands after grabbing them hahaha.

Hehe.. now we know! Gracias @gertu! I now believe we were told that, to make sure we stay out of trouble :D

Quien sabe @marblely, quien sabe!!

Who knows @marblely, who knows !!

Hahaha! 😂 I love this exchange of thoughts. Well, that's what we were told. I think it's an ancient folklore that old folks use to scare kids. Hahaha! 😂

But I have looked into it, and this is what I've read:

"No, moth dust can't cause blindness, if you got the 'dust' from their wings into your eyes, it would hurt you. The'dust'is just their wing scales flaking off. It's suggested that moth scales can be a potential allergen and eye irritant - though the scales are not toxic in themselves."
