Yes, @kemmyb. It is frightening and a lot to place upon a thirteen year old. Some societies the journey is even dangerous just to prove a young man's worth. Raef's courage in undertaking the quest for his family's security is admirable. I feel that the obstacles he faced and lessons he learned along the way and at the market prepared him for adulthood. I also feel he was successful in his return home having tackled his fear of the cave and mountain.
I hope that his other sandal is waiting for him in the vicinity where it slipped from his foot.
