Yes, @kemmyb. It is frightening and a lot to place upon a thirteen year old. Some societies the journey is even dangerous just to prove a young man's worth. Raef's courage in undertaking the quest for his family's security is admirable. I feel that the obstacles he faced and lessons he learned along the way and at the market prepared him for adulthood. I also feel he was successful in his return home having tackled his fear of the cave and mountain.
I hope that his other sandal is waiting for him in the vicinity where it slipped from his foot.

😄 At the point where the guttural growl got loud, I thought, what in the blazes! It's not enough the poor boy has to go through the quiet, misty mountain alone with the eerie noises while repelling the mosquitoes, now a wild animal had to add it's fear in the mix! Hehe. But really, you portray reality through Raef's journey. There are many children out there prematurely 'forced' into adulthood due to the hardships life deals them. Thankfully Raef scales through it all.
