Hi Gub Friends!

It’s been a bit as life got a little crazy here for a while so I apologize for not posting as much as I would have liked to. I recently did a meat haul video now that I’m no longer a vegetarian and every morning consists of fresh cracked bacon, eggs and of course bread. I’m loving it!!!

This meat haul video comes from a farmer but one day I hope to have my own operation and become truly self sufficient. Like many of my videos here on the homestead prepping is a big step towards self sufficiency and in general being prepared for whatever life throws your way. You turly never know what might happen and having food for months, even years can seriously help you in so many situations.

I also started trying liver which for sure has a unique taste. One day I tried cooking it in the slow cooker and the smell that came from that was just awful! Instead I’ve found shaving it on other foods has been a great way to hide the taste of it and still get all the good benefits of it.

What suggestions do you have or recipes for making liver that you enjoy?

The homestead has been growing which I’ll have more videos and updates for you here soon. The chickens have been moved in and are growing up so fast, Twitch chat got to name them lol I can also feel spring starting to slowly come and the garlic I planted over the winter has started to grow. One of the coolest additions to the homestead that I can't wait to share with you all are the bees! I recently got two hives so I can compare them and watch them grow. I've really come to enjoy taking care of them and learning all about it. They will also be a great addition to the garden and fruit trees in the area.

Expect lots of pictures, videos, blogs and podcasts from the homestead. I appreciate all the support, you all have been amazing!

So glad you have continued down this path, getting away from the vegetarian lifestyle and all. I can tell how happy you are about it, pretty clear it was the right decision. I recently talked about my transition from veggies back to meat, not sure if you'd be interested. Just in case... https://peakd.com/food/@daltono/i-will-never-be-veganvegetarian-again-in-my-life-no-matter-what.

As for how to make liver more enjoyable, I would honestly just recommend eating very small amounts daily. The closer to uncooked you can get, the better. Raw preferred. You only need to eat a large serving of liver about once a week to get what you need from it. So if you instead just eat a small amount daily, it seems to be better overall. I would just cut a small piece and drink it down with some water or raw milk. You don't even have to chew it up or taste it that way. Luckily it is one of the easiest things to just slide down your throat and your body will know how to digest it on its own... especially if you are eating a lot of raw dairy and your enzymes are ready to process the nutrients.

If raw dairy isn't available in your stores, look into setting up a herd share with a farmer until you have your own animals. Raw milk, butter, cream, and the like will work wonders on your body, just takes a few weeks to adjust to it.

I actually like the taste of liver, so it's hard for me to not eat too much of it at once. I've felt pretty sick before from eating way too much liver in one sitting. Of course, if you get some bad liver that will result in getting sick too. Don't let either of those things put you off of liver, it is one of the best organs to get into your diet regularly. The main thing is to try your best to make sure that the animal was healthy and don't eat too much of it at once.

Planning on trying some other organs next?

This is great! Also I've been drinking raw milk I source it from a local farmer here which is sooo freakin good. It tastes amazing. I do have a cow tongue I'll be trying soon. Any suggestions to try that you enjoy?

I’ve never tried tongue actually, so nothing much to saw about it. Tons of videos out there though, no doubt.

The honey and soy sauce based recipes are my favorites for salmon. Here's one, but there are a few versions out there: https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/recipes/a55762/honey-garlic-glazed-salmon-recipe/

I've always enjoyed liver sauteed with butter, onions, and black pepper.
