RE: Scottish Highland Games for Market Friday

in #marketfriday6 years ago

Actually, the others are pleated, but not in the same manner and most of the pleating is up front, I believe. The newer trend of short kilts is newer than that, but, these games are the only time I really see them. When I see them at a formal dining affair or a public event where the dress is formal, they are in the traditional, ankle-length tartan.

Kilts can be pleated either to the sett, so that the tartan pattern is preserved in the pleating, or else to the stripe so that the same vertical line is centered on each pleat. Traditionally civilian kilts were pleated to the sett, and military to the stripe. But ultimately it is a matter of taste.

You wouldn't believe the yardage used to make this happen!

Haha, I should have known there was a directive for that! Awesome! Thanks again for filling me in Denise! Hope your day is a great one!

I know!! They used to have reasons that things were done a certain way. Because just didn't cut it back then. :)
