Thanks for straightening that out for me. I had never really thought about it until I read your post. So the girls have brought the hem lines up from the ankle to just below the knee. By any chance did that happen around the time mini-skirts first were in vogue? ;)
Yes I do see all the socks, and I notice that the guy on the left's kilt is very pleated, and it looks the the lady on the right has some pleating, but the others in the picture don't appear pleated. Is there a reason for this too?
Actually, the others are pleated, but not in the same manner and most of the pleating is up front, I believe. The newer trend of short kilts is newer than that, but, these games are the only time I really see them. When I see them at a formal dining affair or a public event where the dress is formal, they are in the traditional, ankle-length tartan.
Kilts can be pleated either to the sett, so that the tartan pattern is preserved in the pleating, or else to the stripe so that the same vertical line is centered on each pleat. Traditionally civilian kilts were pleated to the sett, and military to the stripe. But ultimately it is a matter of taste.
You wouldn't believe the yardage used to make this happen!
