I wasn't going to address this publicly, but after I left the PowerHouseCreatives community this past Thursday, a number of people reached out to me asking what was up (as well as passing along rumors and speculation). I decided I should take a moment to set the record straight.
I didn't leave because of one person. I left because it was time for me to make a change.
For the past two years, I've spent countless hours promoting the community - upvoting, resteeming, commenting, and sharing across social media. I didn't do those things with the expectation of reciprocity - I did it because when I am as passionate about something as I am about the Steem blockchain, I want to do whatever I can to help it achieve success, regardless of the benefit to myself.
And honestly - I'm not saying that like it's a good thing, because I don't see that as a positive. It's more akin to bullheaded determination than any kind of laudable character trait.
Being forced to take time off recently from all social media after I re-injured my thumb made me realize that my focus has been on the wrong things for far too long. I was considering reducing my support to the bare minimum required, but that didn't sit well with me. Something had to give, but I wasn't sure what that was.
When a former member (who I had an issue with a few months back) rejoined the group, I took it as a sign that it was time to move on. Normally I would have no issue co-existing with someone like that - I'm not the type of person to burn down a house to get rid of a spider. I am, however, the type to walk out quietly and close the door behind me when that house no longer feels like a home.
To anyone saying I'm being childish and need to grow up - I believe this is what mature and responsible adults (not that anyone's ever accused me of being either... 😂 ) are suppose to do. They cut their losses and walk away respectfully, rather than stomping their feet and shouting about who is right and who is wrong. One lesson that I've learned over the years that “you can't change other people. You can only change yourself."
I will be forever grateful to @jaynie and the #PowerHouseCreatives (aka @steemitbloggers) for everything they've done, and I plan to continue to support a large number of the community going forward. I'm also excited at the prospect of finding new Steemians to connect with in this brave new Steem land.
Actually, now that I think about it, I did leave because of one person. Me.
