Even before our eyes first wake to see the new day, Gus has already iced the last batch of sweet treats. Ten varieties to choose. Just in time.
The owner of the shop raises the window, exposing the OPEN sign.
Unlocking the door, the aroma of the piping hot sweet bread waffles out and catches a breeze. Soon, the entire block is filled with mouthwatering flavors.
Gus glances up from behind the baking area. He smiles as customers pour in and fill the inside of the shop.
He hurriedly fills orders from the previous evening. He imagines office workers waiting anxiously for the treats to accompany their morning coffee.
The line extends outside the shop.
Another successful morning at the doughnut shop.
For my Freestyle Collage No. 38, the theme is a delicacy that is known as "doughnuts". I love donuts, especially the type filled with baked apples. But my all-time favorite is the Cinnamon Twist.
My pure fractal I wanted to highlight is the star of the scene. Its resemblance to a chocolate-filled doughnut is remarkable.
A "doughnut" or "donut" is a type of food made from leavened fried dough. The taste is sweet, so its primary purpose was to be eaten as a sweet snack. It gained worldwide popularity as it was prepared in a variety of ways.
Doughnuts can be prepared at home. Many prefer to purchase them for a variety of reasons, for example, convenience. For my taste, doughnuts baked by a professional seem to taste more moist and flavorful, as well as the texture being more consistent as a sweet dessert than any I would prepare.
Markets for fresh baked doughnuts include bakeries, high-end grocers, food trucks and stalls, state and local fairs, social events, franchised specialty vendors, cafes, and fast food restaurants..
"Doughnut" is the traditional spelling, while the shortened version, "donut" is simple and used as a catchy selling slogan. Consumers worldwide recognize the shortened version of the word.
Documented reports believe that Dutch settlers brought olykoek ("oil or oily cake") to New York (or New Amsterdam) in the early 18th century. These sweet breads closely resembled later ones but did not have the current familiar ring shape with the hole in the center.
Doughnuts are typically deep fried from a flour dough. Other type batters can be used. They may also include water, leavening, eggs, milk, sugar, oil, shortening.
Toppings and flavors can be used for different types. It's all depends upon preference. Although doughnuts eaten plain is popular, ones glazed with sugar or maple are the best sellers.
Other popular toppings are chocolate, powdered sugar, cinnamon, and sprinkles or fruit.
The two most common types of doughnuts are the ring and the filled shaped. When injecting filling into the inside, the shape of the doughnut slightly expands. Typical fillings are fruit preserves. This type sweet is known as the "jelly" doughnut.
Other fillings are custard, cream, and fruit preserves, such as apple and cherry.
And then there are the small pieces of rolled dough into balls that are cooked and presented as "doughnut holes" or "bites". These are favorites with children as they are small, round, and can be eaten in one bite.
Other doughnut shapes include flattened spheres, twists, and other forms.
Doughnut varieties are also divided into cake (including the old-fashioned) and yeast-risen doughnuts. These type sweets are usually eaten with coffee or milk at breakfast.
A recipe for fried dough "nuts" was published, in 1750 England, under the title "How to make Hertfordshire Cakes, Nuts and Pincushions”, in The Country Housewife’s Family Companion by William Ellis.
The first cookbook using the near conventional "dough nuts" spelling was possibly the 1803 edition of "The Frugal Housewife: Or, Complete Woman Cook", which included dough nuts in an appendix of American recipes.
In preparing my theme, I utilized a previous LMAC contest round image as the landscape portion.
The first I titled "Ripples in Time"
LMAC Round 112 Original Contest Image.
Together, these two images created the basis for my scene.
Below are the additional images I included to complete my theme:
Woman, Butterfly, Eyes Fantasy at PxFuel
Woman in elaborate mask by KELLEPICS at Pixabay
Elephant eye Contributed to the #LIL by @alex2alex
Little Egret Contributed to the #LIL by @digitalis
Fractal titled "Glimpse in Space" created by me in Apophysis
Utilizing Canva as my design program, I was able to upload all the images and blend them to complete my scene:
The female faces added mystery to the scene as though eyeing the delicious doughnuts. Adding the doughnuts next completely changed the foreground of the scene.
Next, I added the remaining images for the egret, other birds, and sparkling effects.
Below is the completed collage:
Thanks for your visit. I appreciate your support and hope you liked my freestyle collage theme.
