Is it sustainable to write 365 articles in a year?

in LeoFinancelast year

Quality over quantity?

Taskmaster not counting as we all know that he is rogue bot that is locked into the blockchain, should we be writing as many articles as we do or can we keep up this rate of production over years?

I'm not sure how many articles a professional writer would produce but if you were producing high quality articles for a publication then i would expect it to be more like 1-2 per week rather than per day.

Like this one here it is easy to produce a piece of work that fits the bill but to produce a high quality piece that would appeal to the masses then it involves research, time, effort and knowledge of that topic to even attempt it.

image.png

I can churn out multiple splinterlands articles per week and keep spinning hive content every other day to keep production up and keep earning which is kind of the point of the system as it is set up right now.

There is no benefit to putting days into content and no incentive to do it either. If I was hosting my own website where the revenue depended on the views that my content generated then i would be a lot more selective with what content was posted to there.

Hive is a content machine. Produce as quickly as possible, attract some votes and then dump it onto the chain, never to be seen again. There are a few exceptions to this but they are few and far between.

That is why the voting mechanism is ar more suited to short form content like threads that are only meant to capture that instant gratification from the audience and gain a little value in return.

Long form doesn't suit our current set up and it's a very internal audience that even look at it.

The funny part being that any articles that i have put in the time and effort to create something higher quality have gotten no attention. Very few votes and very few comments.

Anything that i can sit here and write off the top of my head tends to gain some attention and and some commentary.

Maybe i just appeal to the lowest common denominator on hive that are here for the cheap thrills or maybe that is just what people want to see on hive?

It's hard to tell but to write an article every day you do tend to lose the quality that would be nice to see and stand the test of time.

Maybe in times to come we will have a front end that does focus on lasting content but for now it's all about that instant attention grab.

Write and keep writing until you run out of words.

I hope I'm one of your exceptions. I like to think that my blog posts are quality enough, even if I'm not always to everyone's taste (yeah I know, hard to believe, right?).

I write daily because it's a kind of therapy as I articulate and express better with the written word, and I usually have a lot to say. I like to create. I join in weekly challenges. I take pride in my content and like to think I set an example.

I know it's the instant attention grab but that's the nature of the feed too - you can only scroll so far and usually pick up the dailies, and it's also the nature of the rewards system, as there's no point voting on anything over a day or two old at most.

I like to thing a lot of people are here for the engagmenet too, though recognise it's not why everyone's here, and can see why people get pissedd off with undue rewards or getting very little themselves.

I think more and more HIVE isn't really the place for long form unless you have a burning desire to write it and an audience that might read it. Still, it's a SOCIAL media - shorter posts (for me, that means 300 words minimum) that are still well written and engaging are good enough for what we're set up for. It'd be cool if we had separate reward pools eg long form/short form/micro and you could elect which one you want your post to go in and which you want to play in.

Grateful for everyone who reads and comments on my work. Off to comment on others today, especially the poorly rewarded.

Absolutely a quality writer with some interesting content. I've read lots of them over the years and enjoyed them. I think that the majority of content these days is instant attention so it's never going to be much different on hive.

The days of Shakespeare and Joyce are long gone and we now have random 10 second clips of idiots on Instagram instead.

I think more and more HIVE isn't really the place for long form unless you have a burning desire to write it and an audience that might read it.

I think that it could be if we have the right front end with a long term reward system that pays out content for it's evergreen earning potential. But that would need to come from ad revenue or another system as the 7 day payout window just doesn't fit with long term or long form content. If i make a brilliant tutorial that is sitting on the top of google rankings for years then on my own blog it could generate revenue for years. Here if I put ten hours into writing an article it makes money on day one and that's pretty much it. I can write an article in 15 minutes and receive almost the same.

The engagement is the fun part and that is why threads could do very well. Much better to have fun putting out 20 threads a day and not worry about anything while earning a couple of dollars and getting lots of comments than putting out articles for the sake of it if nobody is reading it.

Happy to see this one get lots of comments and engagements but the longer that you are here, the easier it gets.

There are two kinds of posts: "life" posts and "research" posts. A life post can be written from a memory or personal experience and I can write the skeleton of one of those in a couple of hours.

A good research post, can take much longer, which is why I tend to alternate between the two and can when I have the time, create a quality post on a daily basis.

It also depends on whether or not you're passionate about what you write and what your reasons are for being here. I'm here to help grow the Hive community and because I like crypto and being able to own my own content unlike my experience years ago on Blogger.

I specalize in long-form content as I enjoy writing and it helps us with SEO. We seem to have the short-form market covered here, so I want to capture more of those long-tail keywords that we miss with short-form content.

Despite the upvotes or lack thereof here, I know people are finding my content on Twitter via Google, Bing and Yahoo, because I see the signals when people interact with my Hive content that I created months ago.

A tweet is treated as a webpage and indexed by Google (many people don't know this), and I have no reason to believe that a #thread is treated any differently.

So Even when I get litle support for my posts here on Hive, I know it's being seen on Google even if they don't always come directly here because they interact with me on Twitter. That's why the launch of #threads is so important, over time, it will be a game-changer for Hive.

It's an interesting topic Niall. Go be honest, I like your style, always something interesting to convey, withs good image and usually only one and a good title.

The read time is usually only a minute or two and that suits me, as like most folks I've a good few favourites I like to check in on, comment on, upvote and write my own post.

Daily posting is essential if you want to grow and get noticed imho, and once you pass that 10k HP threshold it becomes less important, as curation kicks in. Although having said that, two of my favourites ,@tarazkp @cryptoandcoffee continue to post daily. I would name both of them as people who have influenced me on here in a positive way.

In general I like quick snappy posts or funny posts, not a big fan of overly verbose ones, as time is usually scarce - family, career, sports commitments, life etc..

Oh and while on the subject of funny posts @ meesterboom as hands down the funniest person on Hive for me, his posts and turn of phrase always have me in stitches!

You know what would help a lot? Anonymous downvoting.

You can’t downvote around here without basically starting a war

Without naming them, there are some noobs in this space who have been around since steem launch (how they are STILL noobs baffles me) and all they do is copy paste their YouTube content here daily and get massive votes. He doesn’t even EVER talk about hive in any of his content … just another leech. Hive price is destined to stay down. We have random spikes up due to low liquidity but the price quickly comes back down, again due to low liquidity.

The power of freedom of choice, since bid bots where eliminated one can't put his or her content he devoted a good amount of time creating too the time line, that's why investors are not running too hive because there is this toxic elements always ready to extinguish them once dey arrive.... Like you side hive as it is now is more suitable as thread that'd why am stacking up more leo

Well I don't know I think it's very much an approach diacourse, of course if you write only for the rewards then it's very difficult.

If you do it with passion, I think it's possible to make more than 365 posts in a year while maintaining high quality.

Obviously I am happy to receive votes but, I confess, it makes me happier to see comments under my posts, interaction, then of course the votes are nice but if things are done well they arrive.

I of the Hivers, who follow dj the most, also went to read posts from one or two years ago, who cares if you can't vote, it's still a way to get to know those people a bit, right?

Absolutely. And there are sites like veews that are working to bring some of that old content back to life and get more eyes on it as well as rewards.

I love to see the comment rolling in especially when you can tell that they have read the content and want to talk about it. Even debate it and have those chats. That is the end goal of writing, to have people read it and take notice.

Yes, I agree and also the interaction and exchange of ideas, in my opinion enriches 😉

I think there is topics to write on daily as long as the topic interests yourself. I have no clue what I am going to write on and during the day find things that pop out. this could be from reading a post on Hive or an article or something related to the day. I know I wouldn't try and do 3 but 2 is my maximum per day and again the topics have to get my interest first before sharing.

I think it's like anything... there's a recipe. Quality, frequency, and informative/helpful all play a part. Some people are able to produce more than others, one shouldn't really be "penalized" either way, as long as there is a certain level of consistency.

Well, we can't say it's impossible as some people are doing it, but it is very hard to accomplish... There are many obstacles to achieving it and among others is that day has only 24 hours and everyone needs sleep... 😃

Another issue is topic or niche... If you write "general" posts it could be easier to do it than to write "expert" posts from some narrow niche... In those 24 hours, you have to count multiple hours to research the topic and multiple hours for quality engagement with your audience (and other authors)...

As I said, some people have proved that it's possible, but IMO, it's impossible to be an "expert in everything" and many people trying to do it here... Copy/paste articles, rewritten without any understanding, or even worse, written by AI... IMO, that makes HIVE like any other platform, and that is not the case... The big difference between HIVE and others is that here you can say YOUR OPINION, and that's something that most people appreciate the most... That's the point from where we can build, through discussion and collaboration...

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project which will be highlighted in the next post!

I think exactly the same as you, that quality tends to be lost if we try to write daily just for the sake of writing. That is, we can write anything daily, and we can force ourselves to write an article a day, but the quality of writing will suffer sooner rather than later, because as you said, making quality content requires research and effort, and that is undeniable.

IT's a hard balance to find for most of us.
I have written some in-depth articles over the years and put time and effort in to receive no comments or rewards.

I wrote this in 20 minutes before bed and find it full of people interested and engaging???

Is quality well written or what gets people interested??

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Possible? Maybe; productive? hardly. At least I have tried to do it many times but without success. That is, I have not achieved such a feat, because writing takes time and effort. Because I am not good at writing something valueless, since I like to write quality content. Maybe my approach is wrong, but that's just the way I am.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I really also have such problems with mine too. The posts I dedicate my time to ends up getting little or no vote and attention and it always come with my medical posts,it's quite sad most times 😂
I was asking my friend if hive is allergic to health one certain time😂😂

It's just the type of content that people around here like or don't like.

I love content that revolves around business, crypto, gaming and hive and that is where my attention goes to. There are lots of top quality articles on travel and life that i just never click into.

Just the way that it goes. It's also why it will be important to have stand alone communities at some stage like travel feed for the people who appreciate the content and can support it through their own site like leo does for the content that i like. When every site have their own userbase it will work much better but they need to be self sustainable.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Exactly.... I get the point you are trying to make about the content catching the readers eye
It depends on the reader, even when it's a quality post but then the reader doesn't love the subject matter, it's not going anywhere

Even if you're not receiving a ton of rewards for long-form posts, at least it's an immutable ledger and your writing portfolio will live on for infinity... I mean, until the sun explodes at least.

I wonder what @taskmaster4450 has to say 😅

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

To me, I feel it depends on how well your audience could relate to the topic you are discussing about before you can get a attention and comments on a post.

At least to my experience…

I'd say it is. Quality is subjective of course, but for the past five years I managed to put out 2 blog articles a day on average.

ROI also matters. Say if you get like 10 cents vote then writing for 2 cents of return per article per day is not sustainable. And most of the writers here on hive earn 10 or 20 cents. So writing daily becomes demotivating and also writing for adsense page views becomes more profitable.

ROI matters but it's not guaranteed.
There are millions of people out there with blogs that will never earn 10c from ads.

There are people here who earn 10c on day one and some who earn up to $50 a day blogging at these prices. A lot more when the prices are up.

I think that in either case it takes time and effort to build up to the higher number. Your blog won't earn $50 a day until you fill it with hundreds of articles earning a few page views each and you won't get to $50 a day on hive without putting in the groundwork for a year or two to build your reputation and follower base.

Nobody is going to do well from day one so it's more about where you want to put your time and effort. Personally i found hive much better than a blog if you out the work in and build a stake. Then you earn just for voting while you grow.

I give out about a 10c votes on here just for engaging with my content. That adds up over time.

I really don’t know how task and tarazkp do it.

Task is an early generation AI bot that never left it's testnet and i'm fairly sure that tarazkp runs a content sweatshop in his basement. Churning out contnet 24/7 for food and water.

One thing I've found about periods of sustained writing; the more I write, the less I read. It's like too much talking and not enough listening. I go through phases myself. I think a balance in that regard goes a long way.

I don't know about every year. I definitely did it for 1 or 2 years (maybe missed 1 or 2 days total). Don't know that it was worth it :-p

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I don't think so. I never thought so, but 365 threads is almost too easy lol

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

You are right, at least the long form still gets some votes, especially contest, as an organization (hive) will try to fulfill the mass dreams as they are their customers, a lot of people don't like reading lengthy article that's just the issue on ground.

#veews solves this. It is #stumbleupon on the blockchain that will soon go back to the genesisblock. It has machine learning to learn what kinds of content you like to read.

You should really be able to make as many posts as you like and make as many posts until your heart desires and just let your creativity flow and share your thoughts with the world that is my view some can make one a week like you as you and your buddies make more than the average users on Hive

There are many Hive people who make two or more posts a day and make $50 Hive Hbd on each one! It's like they've found a way to turn their posts into gold
