As always @kemmyb, the underlying problems in any relationship usually come to light in unexpected ways. No matter what one does, someone sees or knows about it. Nothing is kept secret forever.
As a friend, I feel that Joanna was right to tell Edith about the situation involving her husband. I felt, however, that knowing Edith as she does since boarding school, surprising and embarrassing her in public in the lingerie shop wasn't the right approach. She should have perhaps addressed it at her home, just the two of them, over tea and then gave her the gift if she felt comfortable doing so.
As for Edith's husband, I felt that, in the month after the incident with Joanna, she addressed the issue with him BEFORE she proceeded to purchase the book and intimate items. Clearly, he's not out of the woods yet smearing her name at the Club, but perhaps they can come to a better understanding of what is needed for a successful marriage.
Thank you so much for your visit and lovely compliment for my theme. The times that anyone lives in often dictates one's actions and reactions. Breaking free from those constraints is not for the faint of heart.
Joanna took action and reported good results. Individual results may vary, as they say concerning Edith. I do wish her and her husband luck in their relationships.
Take care and have a good rest of your weekend.
