The Spitzkoppe are bald granite peaks located between Usakos and Swakopmund in the Namib desert of Namibia.
These memories came up on my social media feed this morning, I couldn’t believe it’s been a year since I was stranded in Namibia, not able to return to South Africa for 3 months during the lockdown travel restrictions. I was blessed to be able to do some travelling during my time there and the Spitzkoppe was one of the amazing destinations I visited.
The tented accommodation peeks through the picturous cliffs. The rooms have no cellphone or wifi reception, but with the magnificent scenery all around, you are actually able to completely shut off from the world around you and just enjoy the serenity of the outdoors.
The granite is more than 120 million years old and the highest peak rises about 670 m above the desert.
The Rock Arch is also a well-known formation. It is one of the must see attractions in Namibia and has featured in a few films as well. It is a natural rock arch, and is especially beautiful near sunset or sunrise.
Hundreds of examples of Bushmen artwork can be found in and around the Spitzkoppe and Pontok Mountain area. Some of the paintings have been damaged by vandalism, but most still prominently appear, even after thousands of years!

The dining and bar area opens onto a spacious, pool deck, with an exquisite view onto the granite boulders which are lit at night. The lodge arranges couches on the boulders, so that you are able to have a front row seat to watch the magnificent sunset, relaxing with a G&T.
The restaurant is run by a professional chef and these appetizing and aesthetically pleasing dishes kept my taste buds begging for more!
The Spitzkoppe are a must see when experiencing Namibia. It is a weekend away from the busy reality of the world, where you can recharge through the serene atmosphere of the untouched nature around you!
