Hello hello
Happy new week and month. Hope everyone has been having lovely days and peaceful nights. Starting with the good parts, I have been well and so are the folks around me except the mother who’s currently a little down with a toothache and she doesn’t want to take the tooth out so we’re just micromanaging the situation.
On work, the high courts are on holiday till October so except for a few matters at the Magistrate and customary courts, it’s mainly desk work till October. Then there’s art; I have had more than one or two projects moving into August and I seem to be on an animation phase. A couple of days ago, I was on twitter and got tagged in a post that had one of my pieces on Mallow Art. I moved me into checking out my profile there and that’s why I realised that piece had just sold but then I couldn’t help laughing so hard my sides hurt because I discovered that solana is now about $73 and I listed that piece when it was over $230 for about 0.1 SOL…. so ahhh….. I forgot about the need to update the sale price and all that so my bad but at the same time I was feeling good for the collector. That’s that. I used the funds from the sale to get parfait that evening which I enjoyed immensely while drawing so I was happy in the end. Ice cream and frozen yogurt hits differently in cold weathers, I love it. I even bought a bag of mixed nuts because I don’t know why adding nuts toppings has to cost an arm and a leg from the stop closest to me even plain peanut butter nuts go so well with coconut shavings and I digress…..
Anyway, the only reason I decided to set that event here was because I wanted to throw in my thoughts on how I price my work. The general rule is that I have no rule on pricing, sometimes I follow my peers and other times it can be very random. I try to take into consideration the work done and time spent. The first aspect of this, I’ll get into and the other would be left for another day.
If you know you know but if you don’t, trust me; it’s all digital drawing waving a wand, finger or mouse on a screen but the size of the canvas matters. The amount of effort it takes to draw on a 1024 x 1024 pixels canvasis completely different from when you’re working with 5000 x 5000 pixels. Now I don’t know about my graphic tablets and trackpad buddies but I believe the same applies. Small canvas means less effort, less time and a large canvas is the opposite.
In case you didn’t know, I am an exco member of “go large or go home”. Ever since I viewed my art on a large screen many eons ago, I developed a phobia for blurry and pixelated images. I want to see my babies looking crisp at all times. A reason I can never be fully sold into ordinals and other fully onchain art because every time I need to squash my piece, I feel pain. Except for pixel art of course… speaking of which, last Saturday while the current ongoing cryptoart fude was dominating my timeline, I came across a post seeking additions to an open collaboration on Opepen. First time I got to know this platform. I liked it on a surface level but getting to know it more seemed like energy I didn’t desire to expend. I added this little mushroom.
