I am a huge fan of psychological horror films and I find "The Orphan" spine-tinglingly beautiful. I know this movie is quite old. It was first released in 2009, but I have just watched it recently on Netflix. I actually remember wanting to watch it when it was released back in the day. I was still a University student then, but I failed to do it and just forgotten about the movie altogether. I was quite excited when I saw it on Netflix and didn't wait long to finally watch it. I don't regret doing so! :)

There's something wrong with Esther!
Yep, that's for sure but it's for you to find out what that something is. For now, I'd like to tell you a bit of information about this film.

There's this family of four... well, it was supposed to be of three but the mom, Kate, had a miscarriage and lost their third child. She's alcoholic and is trying to stay sober with the help of her husband and doctor.
Her husband, John, has been supportive of her and her family. As mentioned earlier, they have two kids. The eldest one is Daniel and the other one is Max. Max is deaf and they communicate with her through sign language.
The couple decided to adopt another child, perhaps to lesson their loneliness or maybe guilt for the lost one... and that's when Esther came into the picture.
Allow me to share the trailer below.

As you see in the trailer, Esther was a very lovely an talented kid. She's really good at painting and she thinks maturely. She was able to form really good relationship with her new family until at some point, she changed.

Just how is it possible for such a sweetheart to change? What triggered her? Was it because of the current situation or was it because of her past?
I had these questions on my mind while watching... and I didn't realize what it really was about until the last minute. What made me more excited was the fact that I have heard some real-life story which is pretty much similar to what's happening in the movie. Well, the movie was way more brutal though.
Before watching this movie, I really thought it was a horror film like exorcism or something... haha but it was way better than I expected. I super enjoyed the psychological aspect of the film . The effects were awesome and the scenes were actually really commendable, though some parts could have been better. However, the story itself was pretty great for me. The actors were also really good and the kids were adorable! <3
All in all, I enjoyed the show and would actually watch it again. Psychological horror is so much better than just simple jumpscare and whatnots. <3
