I recently just finished watching the anime called "JAPAN SINKS 2020".

From the title itself, we can figure out that this anime is indeed dark and tragic. I was in two minds whether to watch it or not but my curiosity got the better of me. And so I watched it.

Well, the setting was before the supposed-to-be 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Some athletes were training, people involved in the planning and construction are very busy with their preparation and all. Everyone seemed excited when suddenly a very huge quake disturbed Japan.

Somehow the story reminded me of the movie 2012. It's scary to watch because there's a possibility for things like calamities and disasters to happen in real life. I guess it's especially scary when you live in Japan and while watching this anime, you feel the earth shake. It would definitely make me feel paranoid!

Well the story focuses on a certain family, close friends and some people they met along the way. There is one thing that made me love watching this anime despite all the tragic things that's happening.

One of the main characters, Mari the mother of Ayumu and Go, is a Filipino who is from Cebu. I couldn't help but screenshot this because I'm also a proud Cebuano and seeing a character which is from my place made me proud. I guess, there are a lot of Japanese people who likes the Philippines, especially Cebu. At least, most of my students do. haha

Anyway, as the group try to find some rescue and place to stay safe before the country totally sinks they faced a lot of trials. They lost some members along the way, which in itself is heartbreaking. I don't want to spoil who died and who survived, but I just want to say, it's not for the weak-hearted. I cried several times while watching it.

Here's the trailer from Netflix's Official YouTube account.

To be honest, there are still a lot of questions on my mind about the anime. I am also still in great denial in terms of the death of some of my favorite characters. Anyway, it was nicely portrayed. The artstyle is quite unique, too.

I didn't regret watching it despite having my heart broken a lot of times. If you're interested, feel free to watch it! <3

Indeed even from the name this anime most really be tragic.
But I don't really know if too watch because you said some of the your favorite actors died. I know they may also turn out to be mine too.

Ahahaha... you can at least try out the first few episodes and decide from there. :)
