I am actually pretty boring at these kinds of events, and not because of any issue with my English, but because I tend to get lost in big crowds, I tend to prefer smaller company where you can actually engage with people for real and not this surface level small talk that usually takes place at such big gatherings.

My wife on the other hand is great in any social events and can find a way to talk to anyone under any conditions.
