In the game of life, the referee carries a whistle and does not wear a uniform. It resides in the quiet moment before yes becomes a habit, in the pauses between decisions. It sees fouls we claim not to commit and monitors time we squander blaming the clock. There is no audience to impress, no replay to reverse the reality. Every phone is fixed the instant it is made.

The official is occasionally severe, awarding punishments when you wish for grace. Other times it lets play go on, counting on you to learn mid match.Though the regulations stay the same, you debate, sulk, and feel betrayed. Equity is not about comfort. It concerns consistency. In the last analysis, you are not playing to get ovation. You are playing to end honest, with no protests left to make.
