A bridge that leads nowhere. It seems like an oversight, something overlooked, forgotten, or given up. A building built to connect two places but left hanging, extending out over emptiness. The failure of a government program or a road that ran out of funding may be the result in physical terms. But on a deeper level, a bridge to nowhere might symbolize a variety of life experiences. There are moments when we fantasize, make plans, or form relationships in the hopes that they will lead us somewhere important, only to find ourselves stranded in the middle, with nothing in between.

We all construct bridges. We put our heart, soul, trust, time, and energy into anything or anybody. We picture the location. But occasionally, even with our best efforts, events do not go according to plan. Maybe the way we believed was secure fails. We may have only come to the conclusion that we were traveling in the wrong direction too late. Being on that kind of bridge makes us feel as though we are caught between where we came from and where we thought we had at last arrived. Turning back feels like failure, and there is no way to move forward.

Nevertheless, a bridge to nowhere is not always a negative thing. Perhaps it's a time to stop. A location to stop and think. It illustrates that not every trip will be productive and that not every attempt will guarantee success. And that's acceptable. Simply building the bridge can occasionally teach us something. Even if the goal fades, we still develop our fortitude, expertise, and knowledge.

Freedom can also be represented by a bridge to nowhere. If there is nothing ahead, there is nothing to lose. It may act as a launchpad for a change of direction. You get to decide what comes next. Jump into something completely different, tear down the bridge, or fix it. It's not about failure; it's about possibility.

Therefore, stay cool if you ever find yourself on a bridge leading nowhere. Take a look around. Take a breath. Choose a new course based on your prior knowledge. If you have the courage to keep walking, even a bridge that leads nowhere may lead somewhere.
