I honestly can't remember.
I can't remember the last time that I got excited about an altcoin coming through the markets.
There have been a few small airdrops in the past couple of years. We did have a phase of silly meme coins on solana that were making people money but none of these have had an value in the long run.
The whole space is poised for something to make a breakthrough but it's an empty promise at the moment.
I know that the bro community are pumped about Magic Newton and what it will bring but i don't see it. I don't see what need it fulfills in the real world that would make it a game changer.
Bitcoin is holding steady at the top of the market because it serves a very important function that people have a need for. It's becoming a hedge against fiat currencies and over time should rise high enough in price that market conditions won't overly effect the price. Even with all of the uncertainty in Israel, Iran and America dropping bombs it didn't shake Bitcoin like in past years.
For me Hive still offers the best possibility to change an industry either through gaming, self serve websites or the no fee tech that allows people to build such great projects here that aren't possible on other chains.
The best alternative projects are still the OG chains like Dash, Ethereum, Cardano, VeChain, Thorchain and none of these are lighting up the scene either with new projects or ideas. The lack of announcements is palpable. I did see that Jupiter exchange have been making moves and Arb are collaborating with some big companies that might increase adoption but these announcements are few and far between.
People are complaining that the altcoins are stagnant in price for the past year but what are they bringing to the table??? What are they doing to generate revenue for the holders or to fill a need in the market place.....
Looking at any successful business online or in the real world and they fulfill a need or a want in the general public. Crypto is mostly speculation and hype with a lot of people losing money over the past decade by gambling on them going up on this basis.
I'm looking for a token that has real business principles or that solves a problem in the wider world. That would be a good altcoin.
Does it exist out there already or will it ever come to be. It will be interesting to see what comes during the next year or so but so far there have been no whispers of anything apart from Kaito and Magic Newton.
