Sarah's Oil ( Movie )

in #movies8 days ago

The remarkable true story of eleven year old Sarah Rector, an African American girl born in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the early 1900s, who believes there is oil beneath the barren land she's allotted and whose faith is proven right.

Like any couple we're always looking for the next watch. We switch from genre to genre depending on the mood and this weekend herself wanted some drama.

I had just seen a clip of this on insta the day before and thought of it straight away which saved us hours of browsing and trying to find something.

A true story can usually be a good shout for a watch if their is an interesting concept behind it.

This is the story of a young black female who is designated land for reparations in Oklahoma that turns out to have large oil reserves underneath it.

As you would expect their is little to no regard for her rights or those of her family as the greedy business men try to scam, swindle and scare the land away from them.

It touches onto the inherit racism of the time while showcasing the greed behind big business and what lengths people are willing to go to for money.

All based on the true events and well believable as the same goes on in this day and age.

The plot itself is self explanatory but it's the characters that sell it. You have to root for the underdogs in these sort of stories as most of us are in the same positions so the difference is how hard the people were willing to fight for their survival instead of just selling out for cheap and avoiding all the hassle.

Opinion

I really enjoyed the movie and it's one that we got right into. Sometimes you have the phone in hand but even when we knew where the movie was heading.

The cast was very good, the story riveting and the movie well directed.

We watched from start to finish and both got right into it. I recommend giving it a watch for a relaxed evening. If you like true life stories and a good storyline then it's a good watch.
