It's been all excitement in the area since Tuesday as we heard that an Irish person was after winning the largest jackpot in the country ever form the European lotto.

€250 million was won by a person in Cork who bought the ticket in person. they have made contact with the lottery headquarters and are currently getting financial advice before claiming their prize.

Even better news is that a lottery win in Ireland is tax free so that person will be able to see the full amount land into their account when they do claim it.

I'm sure that the person will remain anonymous collecting the win but there are some things that you just can't hide. €250M being one of them as you upgrade the house, the cars, the wife and quit your jobs in the same breath. Hard to hide that in a small area.

While I'm disappointed that it wasn't me there are a lot of problems that come with a win like this as well. We've seen in the past how people cannot manage large sums of money like this when it comes at you suddenly.

The smart thing to do would be to lock it all up at 2% APR and liv off of 5m per year comfortably for the rest of your life without too many people chasing you for handouts but the initial reaction is to buy everything that you have ever wanted and blow a large chunk of it until you have ran out of ideas. You would be hard pressed to run out of actual money but you can run into other problems form it.

There is one great story from England where a binman won the lotto a few years ago.

A man dubbed the 'King of Chavs' after winning big on the lottery had to return to his old job as a bin man after he spent a whopping £9.7m. Michael Carroll, 39, won his fortune 20 years ago and his life instantly changed, as he developed a taste for drugs, alcohol, and brothels.
He bragged that he had slept with over 4,000 women, would pay for orgies, and once shared that he started each day with "three lines of Charlie and half a bottle of vodka", as the Daily Star reports. The former millionaire spent his entire winnings, and was eventually left homeless, bankrupt, and divorced after his wife left him.

Now if i won the money when i was 20 there is a fair chance that i would have gone the same way.

Hopefully at 37 if I did come into money like this i would have a bit more control and sense.

€250m changes everything though. It opens up every option that you could have dreamed about over the years and takes away most of those barriers. If you have enough money you can do almost anything and this is that kind of fuck you money that can get you places.

I would like the giant house, nice cars and a few staff but after that i would get bored in a few years.

It would be class to buy 20M Hive and hire a team of devs to build cools apps for the chain. Try to guide it in new directions and onboard the world.

If you have that kind of money you need to find something passionate to keep you involved. Unless you love it then you won't stick with it. You would be too rich to give up your time for no other reason.

It's an interesting question when it's all theory.
Different in reality.

What would you do with that kind of money???

Sort:

i would fund the development and implementation of an Anonymous, FOSS, Decentralised Multi-Level Fractal Democrity protocol. I would then create a Cause Group using that protocol to build initially a few Holistic Living & #Education Communities as models for others to emulate.

i don't think my lifestyle would change much. i would still live at my homestead (planned as a Holistic Living Community) but accelerate the renovation, construction, landscaping etc.

i would definitely not buy a new car, but perhaps buy a used (non "smart-car") and convert it to electric so i can charge from solar (or possibly a "free energy generator"), and a few other things to ensure i, and other residents are self-sufficient (out of the matrix control system).

i would invite locals, children & adults, to the community to learn about self-sufficiency, permaculture, #emotionalintegration, meditation, #holistichealing & much more.

Yeah, it's so much money that you can get everything you want and at that point you don't know how to spend so end up in drugs, prostitute etc

I guess I would buy a house in a place I like with the sea, a decent car, quit work forever and then travel everywhere... Unless totally wasting them I won't be able to finish that money not even in a full life

Truly an amazing story, it shows how massive wealth can be either a blessing or a curse, depending on how it’s handled. €250 million tax-free? That’s a dream come true in every sense, but at the same time, it’s a huge responsibility.

€250 million life-changing money! In a small country like Ireland, good luck staying anonymous, It’s easy to dream big, but would you really stay grounded with that kind of wealth? Curious… what’s the first thing you would do with €250M?
