There are so many businesses out there that people are doing to survive and provide for their families. From selling foodstuff in the market to running online stores, driving bolt or even doing content creation like me on Hive. But sometimes I come across a kind of business that just leaves me surprised, not because it’s wrong or bad, but because it’s just one of those things that I know I personally can’t ever imagine myself doing.
As weird as this may sound, one business I really admire but I’ve never tried and may never try in my life is selling firearms. Yes, firearms. Before you start raising your eyebrow, let me explain myself.
First of all, I’m someone that’s very peaceful by nature. I don’t like violence at all. Even when people are fighting or arguing around me, I always try to calm things down because I hate trouble. So imagine me being the one selling tools that are sometimes used to cause trouble. It just don’t add up.
But at the same time, when I think deep about it, I can’t help but respect the people that are legally into that line of business. You see, selling guns is not like selling pure water or second hand clothes. It's a very sensitive and risky business that requires serious responsibility and knowledge. There are so many laws and licenses involved. You can’t just wake up one day and decide to start selling guns. It’s a whole process that comes with background checks, security clearance, and a deep understanding of how to manage risk.
The people that sell guns legally, especially in countries where it’s regulated properly, are actually doing an important service. They sell to licensed individuals like hunters, security men, bodyguards, or even government forces. And the fact that some of them are making legit millions from it is something I honestly respect. It’s not easy.
But for me personally, it’s a no go area. I feel like I would be too scared of the responsibility that comes with it. What if the wrong person gets access to a gun from your store? What if it ends up being used to harm someone? The guilt alone would be too much. Even if you followed all the rules, it would still haunt your mind. I don’t think I have the heart for that kind of pressure.
Another reason I admire people in that line of business is the courage it takes. Some people might look at them with suspicion, especially in our society here in Nigeria where people are already scared of any talk that involves gun or security. But they still wake up everyday and run their shop or business like every other person. That’s boldness right there.
In a funny way, I think it’s similar to people that sell medicine. If you think about it, medicine can either save a life or end it, depending on how it's used. Same thing with guns. But while we respect pharmacists and doctors, many people don’t respect gun dealers. Maybe because of the way movies and news always paint them as bad people. But the truth is, not all gun sellers are illegal or evil. Some are just business people, doing something most of us can’t dare to try.
Sometimes I even imagine how it feels to be in that line of business. Imagine having to sit down and study the different types of guns, their parts, how they function, and who is legally allowed to buy them. Imagine knowing the difference between a Glock and a Beretta, or knowing which bullets match which weapon. That’s not child’s play.
Even if I had the opportunity to join the business one day, I still don’t think I would. I just know it’s not my thing. I prefer my peace of mind. But I will always admire those who are doing it responsibly. It takes strength, discipline, and boldness. And that alone deserves some respect.
So yes, as strange as it may sound, the business I admire but may never try is the gun business. Not because I love guns, but because I respect the hustle and the courage it takes to be in that field, especially in a world where anything can happen at anytime.
