The ball rests on his shoulder
like a borrowed burden.
Not heavy enough to stop him,
not light enough to forget.
His body bends forward,
already trained by roads
that teach children
how to lean into effort.
Dust follows him quietly.
The land watches, saying nothing.
Play ends, survival continues—
same muscles, different reason.
He walks on,
knowing without being told
that even joy
must sometimes be carried
the long way home.
