Censorship is needed to some extend. Block KNOWN spammers transactions from RPC. They can run their own nodes if they want to.

Needless to elaborate further. Known spammers are annoying. It is not because the blockchain is censorship resistant that everyone running a node or an API must accept transactions transmitted by known spammers.

Juts implemented a blacklist. If the transaction is a post or comment by a spammer ignore/reject it.

Spammers will still have their freedom of speech, by running their node they can keep spamming, that is unstoppable. For the greater good thought public APIs should make spammers lives more difficult

Sort:

You can mute accounts, notifications won't come after that and won't see those spammers again.

Just downvote and/or mute him. The alternative of true censorship is too dangerous.

controversial... but i cant say i dont see the upside

Could be controversial but it is meaningless controversy. Spammers can run their nodes and keep spamming

It is just about preventing abuse on public APIs

Looks like you got some unwanted attention :))

I don't know about the technicalities and the cost to the blockchain, but I just do my thing and ignore the noise.

I am one of six kids...all born within 6 years. I think I learned to just ignore stuff I don't like. That was a survival skill in my house.

Yep. I just block them and you can block too. By using the ignore/block functionality they disappear. For example Ecency says this post has 15 comments but I only see 2, I assume the 13 others are by accounts I blocked.

Still even if I don't see them, whoever didn't block them will see those annoying spammers. Still, public APIs shouldn't be abused.

Spammers are unstoppable but to do that they should run their own nodes rather than abusing public nodes to relay spam.
