What Kind Of……. My Actifit Report Card: January 27 2026

What kind of dog is that?

If you’ve read any of my posts, you’ve probably run across Phoenix-our grand-dog belonging to our son. She is a Rhodesian Ridgeback mixed with a Dachshund . Quite the interesting mix! Rhodesian Ridgebacks are a large breed dog whereas of course, a Dachshund is anything but large. Bring the two together and you get Phoenix!

I did some research on the breed and here’s what they say.

They are medium to small in size often with a long back just like a Dachshund. She is on the small side of medium in body build.

They have short to medium legs. Well, hers are definitely short-we call her a ‘draggin’ belly’ because she’s such a low rider!

The head can be either Ridgeback or Dachshund; in her case, I’d say Ridgeback. They are denoted as having soulful eyes.

Yep-she’s got that covered!

The coat is short and can be wheat color into red, brown or black. She also sports the ‘ridge’ on her back that the Ridgebacks are famous for.

She gets personality traits from both breeds. She’s exceptionally loyal and protective. Once you are part of the family, she showers you with love and wet doggy kisses!

She is an excellent hunter and will flush a grouse on command. She goes hunting often with our son.

They say that this breed needs mental stimulation which explains her love of outdoor adventure shows on TV-no, I’m not kidding!

She is a ‘big dog soul in a low to the ground’ body!

She’s had an adjustment over the past few months since our granddaughter Olivia came into the world! They’ve been cautious with the two of them, but now Olivia just giggles and laughs when she spies Phoenix and Phoenix just want the opportunity to lick a little of that baby drool from her face-you know, just clean her up a bit, lol! 🤣

I also have a video where Olivia is having some floor time with Phoenix curled up beside her as if guarding her. I suspect she would protect her should the need arise! 🐶

Phoenix was a rescue on her last leg. She had extreme anxiety and abandonment issues. My son and his wife were her last hope. If they hadn’t gotten her and someone else had, had they returned her, she would have been euthanized. How sad that would have been! Our son is tenacious and would not give up on her. She didn’t give up on him either! We are all so glad that she’s a part of the family!

Good girl-Phoenix! ❤️

Tomorrow, I return to work. It will be my first outing in 4 days. I’m still coughing and congested but definitely feel better than I did. I’m hoping for a smooth day. 🤞🤞🤞

That’s gonna be it for today. Take care and enjoy the rest of your day wherever you are! 🙏🌏🙏

👣🐑☕️😁🤣🐶😎👍😇❤️🌙🥱😴

The LORD is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?

Phoenix is Phoenix. I'm not familiar with dog breeds but never got around to asking about his breed, now I know. As long as he's a part of the family with the feline members he deserves to be treated as such, and get photographed every now and then.
I think i am finally over my stubborn and lingering cold now.

She is a very nice creature and an unusual breed mix.
Seems like it is a nice ending to a rough start for poor Phoenix
Have the best mid week
