After work today, we headed back to town for our church’s candlelight service. On the way, nature offered up that delectable sight I captured after pulling over.
Everyone loves the candlelight service at our church. It’s a time of family, fellowship and worship of God. They offered two services tonight-5:30 and 7 PM. We chose the early one.
One thing I’ve learned is that for special services, you don’t leave home at the normal time you might would on a Sunday as you end up either back in the square box in the back of the sanctuary or in an auxiliary room. . Tonight was no exception. We left early and remained in the main part of the sanctuary, but not where we normally sit.
The room was dark save for the Christmas lights strung floor to ceiling in the front, 5 real fire lit candles and a dozen or so LED pillar candles. At the beginning of the service was a piano medley of Christmas songs played by a teenager. He did well.
When he finished, the worship team began. There were songs and the Scripture reading by families. The story of the birth of Jesus. Then, the folks in the first row were invited up to light their candles from the 5 live flame candles up front and the light was shared amongst the people.
It was lovely and reverent; watching the light move through the church. 🕯️
It was very moving. The service came to a close. Everyone was in a good mood; warm wishes of a Merry Christmas exchanged. We are all family.
It’s hard to believe that Christmas is just two days or less, depending on what time zone you are in, in the world! It’s gone by so quickly!
Oh-and all those lit candles with open flames? You’d be glad to know that the church did not burn down despite some of those candles being held by young children! 😅🕯️😳
Tomorrow-no work as well as Christmas Day! 😁
That’s gonna be all for today. Take care and enjoy the rest of your day wherever you are! 🙏🌏🙏

NKJV Luke 1:26-38
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”
But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.”
Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
