Tree house and kubo houses up hill
Happy weekend y'all, amazing people! Wow, it's been a month since my last post again!
Last month (July) was my birthday month, and you know what that means? Time for a little family getaway! We decided just go on a chill out-of-town adventure. The best part? My daughter was still enjoying her summer vacation, so the timing was perfect! We even closed up our rental business (Glowbu Kabins) for the day. Yes, a real day off! And where did we end up? Agoo, La Union! It's about five towns over from where we live in San Juan, La Union. I've been wanting to visit this super cute eco-park called "Lakay Ago" for, like, a whole year! They have these adorable hobbit houses and lovely bougainvilleas and I was dying to see them. So, bright and early one morning, we hopped in a trike together with our adorable hyper aspin dog, Kopiko, and off we went to Agoo!
I totally meant to share this with you guys right after our trip, but crazy things happened! A few days later, a huge typhoon (Category 4 monster) decided to pay us a visit. And let me tell you, La Union got hit HARD. It was like a scene from a movie! Trees were falling everywhere like toothpicks, electric posts were down all over the place, and houses, buildings, even bridges were seriously damaged. It was pretty scary, not gonna lie. We were without power for two whole weeks, which felt like forever! And even now, some areas still don't have internet. It's been a wild ride, but we're all safe and sound, and slowly getting back to normal. I just wanted to share what happened before I continue with our fun travel adventure.
So okay, let's go to Agoo!
**First Impressions: Flower Power **
Getting there was already half the fun! Sunny skies, breezy air, and the open road! When we finally arrived at Lakay Ago, the first thing we did was pay the entrance fee. Oops, my bad, I totally forgot the exact amount, but it was around 100 pesos per person, give or take. Totally worth it! As soon as we stepped inside, I saw a burst of color! Bougainvilleas were everywhere! Seriously, these vibrant flowers were blooming all over the park, and even though they were doing some renovations, it didn’t even matter. The flowers were so gorgeous and the whole place had this super chill vibe. It was like a little oasis! I just love everything flower! Seeing this? Hashtag flower power!
Picture Perfect Moments
You know me! The camera came out immediately! I started snapping away, trying to capture all the beauty around us. And trust me, there was a lot to capture! The park was so well-maintained, and you could tell that the owners really put their heart into it. The grass, flowers, interior and exterior design, you name it!
Hobbiton in La Union
Okay, now for the main attraction: the hobbit houses! As we walked further, these adorable little houses started popping up, and I swear, it felt like we were transported straight into a movie! They were exactly like the hobbit houses you see in "The Lord of the Rings"! So whimsical and cute! They look like huge mushrooms! My daughter was absolutely thrilled! We spent a good chunk of time just wandering around, admiring each house and imagining what it would be like to live in one. And guess what? There were even some birds and monkeys hanging outside of some of the houses! My daughter managed to capture a video of them and it was so cool!
Food with a View
All that exploring made us super hungry, so we decided to grab some lunch at the park’s restaurant. Now, I’m not going to lie, the food took a little longer to arrive than we expected, but honestly, we didn’t even mind! The view from the restaurant was amazing, and Kopiko was having the time of his life, sniffing around and enjoying the fresh air. When the food finally arrived, it was delicious! We ordered a mix of local Ilocano dishes, and everything was cooked perfectly. Plus, eating with that view? Unbeatable!
Uphill Adventures and Bamboo Bliss
After our tummies were full, we decided to explore the rest of the park. We headed uphill, towards the treehouses and kubo (teepee) houses. The path took us through a bamboo pathway, and it was seriously one of the most calming experiences ever. The gentle rustling of the bamboo leaves and the soft sunlight filtering through was pure bliss!
We hung out there for a few minutes, just soaking in the view and listening to the sounds of nature. It was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Swing Time and Scenic Views
Of course, we couldn’t leave without trying out the wood swings! My daughter had a blast swinging back and forth, laughing and giggling. As for me, I was all about the view deck. From up there, you could see the entire park, plus the surrounding mountains and fields. It was breathtaking!
Birthday Bliss
Overall, my birthday celebration at Lakay Ago was absolutely perfect. It was a quiet, peaceful place where I could relax and spend quality time with my family. The hobbit houses were adorable, the flowers were stunning, and the natural scenery was simply amazing.
I would totally recommend Lakay Ago to anyone looking for a unique and relaxing getaway in La Union. This place has something for everyone. So, if you’re ever in La Union, make sure to add Lakay Ago to your list! You won’t regret it! And who knows, maybe we’ll bump into each other there! Can't wait to share more travel stories with you all soon! Stay tuned!
