"Dishwasher............" came the voice from the kitchen.

His contorted face would tell the story. It was his designated chore, but Killian hated doing it. To be fair to his parents, the job had a double meaning, of course it was helpful and it was one less thing for them to do have to do, but it also helped to instill a work ethic in the child and knowing how to do simple household jobs would certainly stand to him in later life.

Killian was an avid reader and consumed books. When he didn't know what a word meant, he pulled out his Oxford dictonary which was almost as big as himself. One such word popped up in a book he was reading - flexitarian. He would always guess in his mind's eye what a word meant by looking at the context it was used in, but with flexitarian he was pretty stumped, so he peeled through d, e and finally f, where he found the word flexitarian.

Flexitarian - a person who sometimes eats meat or fish although they do not usually do so.

His little mind ticked over a few times. The following morning the morning chorus came from the kitchen.

"Dishwasher............"

"I'm not doing it today Dad" came the answer, followed by a brief pause.

"I'm a Flexichorian now!"

His Dad peered around the door asking:

"A Flexi-what-now?"

"a Flexichorian" Killian said puffing out his chest.

"It's a person who sometimes does chores although they do not usually do so." he continued.

His Dad laughed, gave him a rub on the head and said:

"Go on, I'll let you off this morning, as I admire your ingenuity, ya little chancer!"

Free Writes

It's been 7 days since my last freewrite, jeepers, this sounds like a last confession....

So, do you know about Free writes? When I first arrived on Hive or the previous chain, I would often struggle for ideas on what to write about, and there were two writing initiatives that really helped - one was called #fiftywords where you could use only fifty words to tell a story about a prompt word and the other was #freewrite which basically sets a challenge of writing a mini story within 5 minutes. I regularly took part in both, and people like @mariannewest and @felt.buzz and loads of other brilliant people, so every now and then I see a post from @mariannewest and think to myself, go and do a freewrite.

Maybe you've never heard of the freewrites yourself, and if that is the case, I'd encourage you to have a go, read about todays prompt and how to enter below and above all else mind yourself and have a great day - smile, rub a dog, help a stranger and just be a nice human.

Here is today's prompt post:
