Mapping out putts on the 15th green at my home course

An idea

Some reflections incoming on my golf game folks. Golf is pretty topical today, after Europe's nerve racking victory against USA yesterday, so hopefully this will be interesting to a few of ye.

Anything you can do to make golf easier and more predictable is going to help you.

It's a tough sport and it's just you against the course and the weather sometimes here in Ireland.

This idea occured to me the last day while practicing and hitting a few putts on the 15th green which you can see below.

As you can see there are many hills, valleys, ups and downs on this green and most greens in golf, so you need to be able to spot these before hitting your putts and clever course architects will make them subtle and tricky to see.

My memory is not brilliant when it comes to remembering the roll on certain greens, so I decided to do a little case study on the 15th green and apply it over the next few weeks.

There are three pin positions often used, front left, back left and back right.

I set up four golf balls about 6-12 feet from the hole in four directions at 90° 180° 270° and 360° and lined up the ball straight to the hole and checked how it rolled, left to right (ltr), right to left (rtl) or straight. I then took notes and photos to keep and memorise. If it starts working on the 15th, I will start to do the other greens too.

Having zero doubt about which way a put breaks or whether it's dead straight could potentially save me 2-6 shots a round which could be massive.

Maybe it could help me finally shoot in the 70s!!

Watch this space.

I think some of the old timers in my club know all these breaks from years and years of putting on these same greens, so this method, albeit time consuming to accumulate could really improve my putting game and putting is where it's at.

Driving for show, putting for dough!

Some work on pace of putts and suddenly 3 putts could become a thing of the past...

A man can dream can't he....

These photos are all my own taken on my Samsung smartphone

Thanks as always for stopping by everyone.

Peace Out
