Hurling updates.

Junior C hurling is not for the faint hearted. I've realized this since starting a few months ago.

I also realized that it's been a long time since I posted about it. That's what happens when your so busy playing the game that you don't have time to write about it.

The good news is that we're still going in the championship. We won the quarter final last week and are preparing for the semi final next weekend. A great achievement for such a small club that has three adult teams at the start of the year. A lot of clubs our size are only fielding one or two if the going is good and we've outlasted so many of these bigger clubs just through stubbornness and a lot of physio.

Our team is literally being patched up week to week and seeing who is the least injured to play again the next game. At the moment I'm holding together fairly well apart from an injured wrist after tonight's training but that will fade down.

The pulled muscles and belts of the hurl were worse the last few days out.
Unfortunately we are running low on backs and I've ended up playing a lot more minutes than i had evert thought that I would. Namely zero minutes. Instead I've ended up laying in every match to date bar one which was not in my plans.

We are doing a good batch of training at the moment and I can't see our opponents going as hard as we are at the moment. The team that we will be playing are young and fit but we want it more. IT should make for an interesting battle.

Old v young.
Experienced v enthusiastic.

A hard match to call.

I'm loving it so far but I do get nervous about the games. It's hard to step out there with lads who are fitter and more skillful than you every single match and with people watching.

I've been playing for three months but some of my team have been playing for over 35 years. That's a big gap to bridge.
But as I see it if they had anyone better for the job they would be playing him instead. Well they did have someone better for the job but he's on his second injury this season and probably won't be back before the end of the year. Only two matches left at most.

So it is what it is now. All I can do is practice as much as possible for the rest of the week and try my hardest.

It would be great to get to the final so we'll see what happens next weekend.

Fair play @niallon11 , that level you can get a few clatters which you wouldn’t get in the higher levels . It’s a dangerous place to be at times 🤣🤣

Let's just say that the ref's are junior C level as well.

Not exactly flying around the pitch.

busy playing the game that you don't have time to write about it. You know you are beginning to make me have an eye on hurling. Not a game over here anyway.
Very glad you guys are heading into the semis. As you said, you guys need it more, use your experiences to beat their enthusiasticness (note, don't underrate them). I wish to hear you made it to the finals.

We won't underestimate them at all. We know hard tough those last ten minutes are when you have nothing left in the tank and they are still flying around.

It's still a niche game but nothing better to watch when played at the highest level. Ours not so much but the best players are phenomenal.

Do well to give me the result feedback and let it be 'we won'.

It wouldn't be for me but more power to you! At U14s I wasn't brave enough to block people down. I loved ground hurling on tarmac but I suppose that's more like hockey than hurling

Probably closer to hockey alright but still a great fast sport to play.

Where did you come across it underage?

I grew up in Offaly, so played hurling underage until 14 or so.
The hurling coach that came to school had days where he got us to play ground hurling to sharpen those skills and also if it was raining indoor hurling was always ground hurling.

I live in Canada now but still support Offaly hurling (and Clare as both parents are from Clare).

You have a good team photographer catching you in action!

We got some great photo's form one match where there was a proper sports photographer present. He caught a good few decent shots during the game.
