The Middle Man
So any regular readers or friends of mine here on Hive will realise that I have three sons and funnilly enough the apple didn't fall too far from the tree with the lads. Two of my favourite interests and things I spend a lot of time involved with in one way or another are Sports and Music and it looks like the three of my kids have inherited these interests from me.
All three play soccer and gaelic football for local teams here in Galway and love it. They were also hurling for a while, but they are not as into that so far to be honest, which is a pity, as it is such a good sport, but it's their lives, not mine, so I do not push anything on them.
They have also developed any enjoyment for and appreciation of music, and every night without fail, after story time, we have music time, where I play some of their favourite songs. We have a piano at my Mum and Dad's house, so since they were young, they love to jump on and play a few "tunes" if you can them that! The eldest and the youngest pound on the keys, but my middle man has always been more easy and more precise with his key strokes and it always sounds nice when he plays and there is rhythm to it. It's the same when he picks up one of my guitars or his brother Ukele, he has the knack when it comes to music. They all love it, but he has the most flair for it.
So, when he asked about drum lessons, we got on it and got him into a local class, he is seven years old and absolutely loves it. Santa was very good this year too and got him his very own set of drums. He loves to practice, and even though it creates quite the racket, I love hearing him play and express himself musically.
After each term at Drumadore, they have a little concert at the local school, but this year they decided to have a big concert for all of the Galway classes in the Black Box Theatre, which is a great venue and one where lots of famous acts have played over the years, so he was delighted and nervous to take the big stage for the first time.
Ready Camera Action!
So, around two weeks ago on June 17th, the big day came. There was a real buzz around the place in the build up to the concert and you could see that all of the little one, although a little bit nervous, were very very excited to be playing a packed out venue like the Black Box and it did not disappoint. We actually loved the whole production and by the sound of the applause and reaction the kids got, everyone in attendance thought the same.
The teachers started things off with a few of their own drum sessions and that really got the room going, and they were really really good I must say.
They were the perfect warm up support band before the real little heroes to the stage to rapturous applause from the audience. I can imagine their little hearts were thumping around in their chests with excitement before things got going.
It was a sight and a sound to behold now I must say, and we were all very proud of our man. Our others sons cheered on their brother and so did my wife and I and we got some great photos and videos to share with our families.
Rock Stars
They get quite the workout in for some of the songs which are drum aerobics as seen below and it was proper hot in there too, so I'd say they were all sweating bullets, especially the teachers who had concerts there all day for all ages and levels.
Here are a few action shots of the little ones rocking the rafters off the Black Box!!
Some Close Ups
Here's a few close ups of the aspiring musicians, who really looked like they were having the best day ever at the Drumadore Mega Drum Bash at the Black Box.
Thanks a million for stopping by
Peace out.
