This week I've opted for an artist many of you may not have heard of before. Every now and then it's good to throw up something a bit less known and introduce the sound to some new people and see what people think. So do let me know in the comments below what you think about Buck 65. He's a Canadian alternative hip hop artist and this little snippet from Wikipedia sums him up pretty well in my opinion:
Underpinned by an extensive background in abstract hip hop, his more recent music has extensively incorporated blues, country, rock, folk and avant-garde influences.
So on we must go with the TTT show. For those unfamiliar with TTT or Three Tune Tuesday....
The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Or why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and hopefully upvote it. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music.
Here are the week sixteen recommendations for Three Tune Tuesday
** Drum roll please.....**
Buck 65 - Wicked and Weird
This is a catchy little number and surprisingly only has approximately 900,000 Youtube views in 15 years. So much of the mass prodcued same-sound-shit-show tunes I hear today rack up one million views in days and go on to have tens of millions of views. So many of them sound like the same DJ or producer mixed them. Give me something quirky and different every time and that's exactly what we get with Buck 65. I hope you enjoy it.
Buck 65 - Blood of a Young Wolf
This one was the first Buck 65 song that I heard and so will always be up there as a favourite. There is depth to this song unlike some hip hop that you hear that rabbits on about guns and bling. I often wondered what the song was about and now I know
This is from the horses mouth:
I lived in Nova Scotia my whole life until I moved to Paris in 2002. I had just signed a record deal and was touring almost constantly. I was a real drifter for a few years there. I guess that song is about my rootlessness and the realization that I didn’t know who the hell I was.
Buck 65 - Paper Aeroplane
Here's one last song for your listening pleasure from the 20 Odd Years LP and featuring Jenn Grant who brings some lovely vocals to the song.
That's it for another week. Those are your three songs for week fifteen. Let me know what you think - good, bad or indifferent? Did you like them all or just one or two? What's your favourite Buck 65 song?
Also, as I said before, I love getting good steers for new tunes, so please tell me about the latest and greatest or obscure oldie brilliance below and I'll be sure to check em out.
