Hello Actifiers And Hivians,
We had a cool weather again today. Everything went well at work, we finished production and supplied earlier than scheduled.
There'd been high demand for bread lately, but I decided to keep the business on a low scale for sometime owing to the high cost associated with bread production at the moment. I discovered that this situation is affecting other countries in the sub African region as well. Here, the local baguette bakers were on strike for a week as they threaten to increase the price to 40% if the government fail to address the economic situation in the country within two months.
There is also another problem that is getting out of control and that is about staffing. There is scarcity of bakery workers: both menial and professional bakers. As a result of this, the salary of professional bakery assistant has skyrocketed. One have to be extremely careful not run out of business.
Some blame the pandemic for all these woes, but I don't completely agree with that in the case of Mali. There'd been political instability here for almost a decade, coupled with corruption and insurgency. All these have a role to play in the economic crisis. Regardless of whatever is going on, am not giving up. I have worked tirelessly to make my business stand firm irrespective of challenges. Also I've been keeping pace with changes in the industry to make sure I adapt when and where necessary.
A friend once told me to closexdown the bakery when the cost of flour increased to 30%. He thought I'll not make it. I told him no way! Unless in the case of a medical condition and of course that would only happen if I didn't get anyone to continue on my behalf.
Thank you for reading and have a blessed night
