A dear greeting to all lovers of physical activities that populate the mythical community of Actifit.
The winter atmosphere continues to fill the sky of Naples with a diffused grey cloudiness even if the blue of the sky passionately fights to find its space in the sky.
When I put on my sneakers I took the bus and the subway to get to the center of Naples. Once in Via Toledo I found myself in front of this extraordinary masterpiece of post-medieval Neapolitan architecture. The church of San Nicola alla Carità.
Nestled between Piazza Dante and Piazza Carità, it is home to hundreds of masterpieces by painters from the 17th century onwards. The frescoes that decorate every possible free space of the interior walls leave you speechless at observing their immeasurable beauty.
When I entered, I discovered that a mass was being celebrated, despite the non-public holiday, and I patiently waited for the end of the service that was in the final acts. It was an opportunity to go over a few passages I was struggling to remember.
In this church is venerated the Greek priest of 300 AD, Saint Nicholas of Bari, and here there is a relic of his body. In fact it is only a finger because the rest of the body is kept a bit scattered around the Italian peninsula.
The building is one of the many baroque jewels of the Campania metropolis. Artistic style that I love a lot and that is steeped in the soul of Neapolitan citizens. Particularly beautiful and majestic is the one behind the altar and behind the main entrance door.
Unfortunately, the church suffers from a lack of care, by the builder, for water infiltration and moisture. Some works under the ceiling and some of mine have been ruined but the main one offers a varied number of valuable ecclesiastical representations.
In the evening I’m going out with a friend to Naples and I take advantage of a bit of traffic to celebrate my #iamalivechallenge 265 almost at the end of an intense #alive day. Finally we resumed with our stops in the streets of the historic center of the city and I respected the millésime of 10k steps.
