It felt so good to finally be able to plant my first crop here on the gubba homestead. If you didn't know I just recently moved and you can check that vlog out here.
My Difficult Decision To Move and Leaving The City and Bought A Farm!
Homesteading life has always been deep within me it just took till now for me to realize it. It's something I've come to love and the feeling of accomplishment is immense.
In this video I'll show you how to plant your own garlic and how long it will take to grow. When the proper time for harvesting is and what to do with the flowering shoots that come from this variety of garlic.
One of the most important factors to growing your own garlic is to make sure you select a type that is compatible with your gardening zone.
Garlic Planting Chart
Climate Zone - Early Planting Date - Late Planting Date
Zones 0-3 - Late August - Late Septmber
Zones 3-5 - Mid/Late September - Early/Mid October
Zones 5-7 - Early/Mid October - Late October
Zones 7-9 - Late October - November
Zones 9-10 - Late October - December
Gubba Gardening Tip: Never eat your best cloves from your own harvest. Save them year after year and eventually you'll have your own superior garlic garden!
When to harvest?
When the stems begin to turn grown and fall over. I recommend digging one up at this time and inspecting how it looks to see if the others should be harvested yet.
