I will always love you- Whitney Houston cover
Original
No way !!!! Yes, it's a cover. This is one of the most mind-blowing songs of all times and it was a cover. Of course, Whitney's voice, so potent, powerful, incredible and fluid made you think that the belonged to her, but no! The original song was written and recorded by Dolly Parton in 1973. It was a commercial success, but seems like everybody forgot to mention that it was her song, when Whitney Houston covered it for The Bodyguard!.
Girls just wanna have fun-Cindy Lauper cover
Original
Girls just wanna, just wanna, well girls didn't know that this song was actually originally recorded by Robert Hazard in 1979. I'm as surprised as you, since the original songs feels like the cover. Of course the song had a more masculine point of view and Cindy made it more feminist. But in the end, it's the same song.
Respect- Aretha Franklin cover
Original
This list is mind-blowing, I know. I didn't believe either, I legitimally thought that R.E.S.P.E.C.T was a original song of Aretha, and of course the many covers that artists dropped later, but no!1 Her version was a cover toom, from the original Otis Redding in 1965. The oldies were covered by the oldies😆. However, in this case, the lyrics were switched a bit. Since Otis perspective, it sounds more like a desperate man giving his woman everything she demands. Since Aretha is an empowering anthem, demanding respect toward women.
Valerie- Amy Winehouse cover
Original
Yes. The original song was written by The Zutons in 2006 and it's incredibly slow. Amy's version is faster, more interesting and definitely more famous. Everyone thinks it's the original (me included)
I love rock and roll- Joan Jett cover
Original
This song was first recorded by the Arrows in 1975. Four years later, Joan recorded it with two members of the Sex Pistols, and her version skyrocketed as one of the top 500 rocks songs.
After all this I need a break. Who knows how many songs we don't atribute to their creators. Do you know any?
So let's make an effort to recognize not obly the original record, but the songwriters and producers!!!
