Every now and then, YouTube adds an artist to my playlist who I've never heard of and I just need to stop and say "thank you" to whatever algorithm dug up that gem for me. That's been the case with South London singer/songwriter, Ego Ella May. If you check her out online, the first thing you might notice is that most of her videos don't have very many views. The next thing that might strike you is how surprisingly good her music is. I feel like she should be famous.
I can't describe Ego's voice adequately in words. If I say she has a really gorgeous soulful tone, that doesn't fully capture her sound or style and everything she creatively expresses goes so far beyond that. Rather than subject you to my attempts at putting together a description, just listen.
The video I've chosen here is an intimate live performance. I miss those, maybe you do too. I'd like to encourage you to put on the good headphones, sit back and imagine yourself in the front row letting the tension leave your body for roughly 45 minutes. If you do, let me know what you think.
