Drawing From Reference

Our 'frigerator has a few of my doodles. They depict myself, some family members, and even the Michael Rosen. Yesterday, I said I was going to draw my late grandpa when my dad suggested I draw him as he was when he took this picture with his late best friend, Juan Bravo (on the right).

I was initially going to begin with my grandpa but instead started with the table because that is in the front-most plane. Then I would be able to use it as a reference point for everything else. I didn't realize I got the perspective a little off until later. We'll get to that.

Slowly but surely, two ghostly figures started to appear. All the fine details will come last.

I noticed the table was off when I couldn't draw Juan Bravo's right hand. At least the drinks won't fall! I was going to put this picture on the fridge but my dad wants to frame it. It is no bigger than a cellular phone.
My grandpa was a good man. Everyone always says he was very serious, and that's respectable in these parts I guess. I think I turned out like him. I usually don't have much to say, but what I do say I say with feeling.
Juan Bravo was also a decent man. I think he was the richest man in the village. It was all honest money, which is more than some here can say. He sold a plot of land to my dad, to whom he always referred to as "muchacho".

May they rest in peace.

Sort:

Even though the perspective doesn't match the reference, it still looks good! Are you going to turn the sketch into a finished piece?

Thank you!
I think not. I tend to leave my drawings like this. I think it is sort of my style for it to to look crude/unfinished haha. It leaves people thinking and perhaps wanting more.
Did you mean like adding some color?

That's interesting reasoning, I see what you mean. If you leave room for the viewer to fill in some of the banks for themselves they connect to your art in a meaningful way. Yeah, some color, or another piece of art using your sketch as the reference or inspiration. Just curious!
