# 965 - Ships on Coins - Part 35

in LeoFinance3 years ago

I am very fond of ships on coins.

I know that many people share this fondness. I have a few coins depicting ships.

So, I will post a series called "Ships on Coins" and I will show all the coins that I have on this theme.

There will be no order of presentation or country of issue. As the coins are stored in several places, I will simply search on each place and publish those that I found.

The thirty fifth is a 2005 CAD $20 "Three Masted Ship".

This CAD $20 coin has 99.99% pure silver, a metal weight of 31.39g and Hologram Proof finish. Its mintage was 18,276 units and the issue price was CAD $69.95.

Ever since the world's first explorers began riding the wind to explore unknown horizons, tall ships have inspired us with dreams of adventure, wealth and fame. There's an almost mystic connection between a captain and his ship as they harness one of the greatest forces in nature, one that can be ally and deadly foe. History is replete with adventure and peril on the high seas. And those ships that survived the fury were later hailed as quick, loyal or brave. Now with this extraordinary collection of hologram-enhanced 99.99% pure silver coins, you can create your very own fleet of tall ships starting with the full rigged three-masted ship, a faithful ocean-going vessel that was used to transport cargo and travelers from Canada all over the world in the 19th century. It was square rigged on all masts in order to coast downwind with the prevailing winds while its fore-and-aft sails enabled the ship to sail closer into the wind.

The reverse was designed by Bonnie Ross and engraved by William Woodruff.

It's amazing to me how a ship can coast downwind and also sail closer into the wind...I still can't wrap my mind around this @ronavel...

I really don't know anything about sailing. :=(

I know how hard it was to get that good shot while at the same time trying to get the hologram waters to illuminate in the photograph.

Thanks for sharing @ronavel
