# 953 - Ships on Coins - Part 29

in LeoFinance7 days ago

I am very fond of ships on coins.

I know that many people share this fondness. I have a few coins depicting ships.

So, I will post a series called "Ships on Coins" and I will show all the coins that I have on this theme.

There will be no order of presentation or country of issue. As the coins are stored in several places, I will simply search on each place and publish those that I found.

The twenty ninth is a 1992-S $.50 "Columbus".

The 1992 Columbus Half Dollar was issued to mark the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. This coin was part of a program that also included silver dollars and gold coins.

The obverse design of the half dollar features a depiction of Christopher Columbus at landfall. Shown in the background is the Santa Maria and a smaller ship with the crew disembarking.

Pictured on the reverse of the coin are the thee ships of Columbus’ voyage under sail, known as the Santa Maria, Pinta and Niña.

Both the obverse and reverse were designed by T. James Ferrell.

I'd like to get this even if it's NOT SILVER, believe it or not I'm not done with the Columbus and Juan comedy team, it's just been on the back burner all this time.
Thanks for sharing @ronavel

All the American $.50 modern commemoratives are made of clad, not silver. The exception was the first one, Washington, that was made of silver.
