Life on Hive is going to change a lot for the better!.jpg

You probably know that there is going to be a hard fork on hive in the coming days. Probably you have read plenty of posts describing the changes that will be implemented. I won't take your time here and go through them one by one.

There is one change that will change the dynamics on hive

After this hard fork, hive will have an almost linear reward curve, at least during the first 24 hours after post publication. In addition the annoying 5 minutes window just after the post is published will be dropped. This means that we won't have to hurry to vote at the best moment and we don't need to care whether there are upvotes after ours. We will be able to vote from the first second to 24 hours after publication without the fear of losing curation rewards. This will put us on an equal level with automated voting.

The only factors that will matter will be our hive power, the vote weight and the voting percentage that we use.

This means that you will get roughly the same amount of curation rewards if you post within the first 24 hours.

What about comments?

So far it was very unprofitable to upvote comments on hive. There is the 0.02 hive threshold that needs to be crossed before any payout is triggered. Then if you upvote a comment and nobody votes afterwards, you will lose on curation rewards.

In a way everything is done to discourage you from upvoting comments at the moment and tools like beer, engage, luv were created to reward people for interacting on our posts.

How HF25 will affect voting on comments

For the blockchain, every comment is considered the same as a post. This means that there will be a linear reward curve also for comments during the first 24 hours. After HF25, if I upvote a comment with at least 0.02$, I will get my full curation rewards. The person who gets the upvote, will get a full author reward.

Engaging and commenting will become a new way to grow on hive

There will be still the dust threshold that will prevent a lot of people from upvoting comments but if you have a couple of thousands hive power, you can start to upvote comments without loosing curation rewards. This is a great thing to encourage engagement on our posts!

This will also offer the opportunity to small fishes to get some nice upvotes if they engage and comment.

I can even imagine that there might be some curation projects that will concentrate on rewarding comments and engagement. They will be able to earn as much as if they did the same for posts.

In general, I believe that we are going to see more commenting and engagement. It will provide small accounts a way to grow organically by being active. It will also mean more traffic on posts and more page views for hive in general.

I'm a big fan of any change that allows voting on comments, I do it all the time on LEO!

And of course NOW I can go back to doing it on Hive!

I think that when LEO changed to linear reward curve, the number of comments went kind through the roof. I hope we will see something similar with Hive :-). Thanks for stopping by!

Great for me and many others, because I try to upvote EVERY comment on my posts, regardless of the reward outcome. Triggering interaction is more important than a few cents rewards.

I totally agree with you. I love getting comments and I try to find ways to reward people who engage with my posts. For the moment I use engage or tribe upvotes but it will be much easier if I can upvote people with Hive and they get something from it :-).

Thanks. Ever tried the #cc tag? It triggers CC tokens for each commenter (if you send 0,1 Hive to @commentcoin).

I need to check that out thanks :-)

Indeed i totally agree Engaging and commenting will become a new way to grow on hive. The way to obtain rewards will be more rational and this is awesome. Thanks for sharing you are doing well.

I think that everybody wins from more engagement and interaction. This is definitely a step in the good direction.

Also hoping this will encourage more engagement. I understand that some only focus on the (up)voting themselves, because of hectic schedules and only have a certain amount of time allotted per day, but even by engaging one could train their "writing skills". I mean it's on a smaller scale that you form your opinion, thoughts, ideas, etc., which could get useful when writing a full blog.

Not everybody feels comfortable to write long posts and often beginners get hardly and visitors to their posts. Commenting can be a nice way to start the journey on hive and with the changes this path will become more interesting for everybody involved.

I agree, it's a way to make yourself more visible. Some also need to learn to comment outside of their "inner circle" and should comment on re-blogged posts and checking out the posts in the communities themselves.

and with the changes this path will become more interesting for everybody involved.

I hope so. Looking forward to what is to come.

This is very good news, because the way to obtain rewards will be more rational and I am happy about it, because those of us who dedicate ourselves to commenting will have better opportunities to have our work better valued.

Your post is very positive and illustrative.

Exactly, this will be a big improvement for people who like to write comments and engage on posts. I love to get comments and it will be great for me to be able to reward commentors :-)

The linear curve is one area I guess most of the people will love.
The threshold should be lower then he current values to increase the comments values during intrecton...

I think that the examples from hive-engine showed that whenever the linear reward curve was introduced, this had a positive effect on commenting and engagement. Let's hope it will be the same for hive!

Wow, thats some good news. And you have explained it beautifully. I wasn’t aware of all this. Thanks for sharing 🙏

I think the dust reward will probably still be a factor since you need quite a bit of HP in order to give a $0.02 vote. Although this might be a lot easier when the price of HIVE increases.

I still upvote the comments on my own posts to give them 2nd layer tokens where there isn't any dust.

I agree that the dust reward will still be there and a lot of people won't want to "waste" their voting power and not get any rewards. However I believe that slightly bigger players will use this option to reward engagement. I also use second layer tokens to reward comments on my posts but I think I will use hive much more when I and the commenter gets a reward!

Achim03, I've noticed from this post, and others, that you are quite knowledgeable about curating. I was wondering if we can correspond by email about a project I could use some advice on.

Hi, thanks for stopping by. You can gladly contact me over discord.
