I think I should say that Aunty Ethel is the oldest in the family or the one who has the final say because no one dares talk back at her
I wonder why she does not want Aunt Valerie to make Rice for the family function
It certainly does sound as if Aunt Ethel is the oldest, and therefore all other family members respect and listen to her guidance. She knows her sister well and knows she is not a good cook. Also Aunt Ethel has no problems addressing any issue with her or anyone else in the family.
There is always that one family member who is vocal. The others know it and am sometimes happy that person speaks up when won't or can't. That's family for you.
