I have a feeling that the parents will respect each other enough in front of their child to not make a scene in the mall. I also feel they will accept the order to make their son happy.

Things may not be ideal for parents to be in each other's company immediately after a breakup, but hopefully they can put their differences aside on occasions they have to interact with each other.

It will be a long endurance test until the child reaches 18 years old, and perhaps beyond, so they'd better learn to co-parent as soon as possible. And what better way than over ice cream. It may cool temperatures a bit.
