A promise is a person's word given to another or more than one of an action that is to be taken. Others rely on a person's words and expect that person to honor it. Decades ago, a person's word was their bond. There were no written contracts. Only a promise to fulfill an action. That was trust. When it is broken, the person is not seen as reliable and may be shunned. Future dealings may be forfeited if a promise is not kept. Broken promises can ruin a reputation. I share a micro-story in the format of a ZAPFIC50 Monday challenge. This new challenge was created by @felt-buzz. It presented the opportunity to explore this week's prompt: "promise".
My story is below:
Gathering his portfolio, Mason dismissed the handshake.
His chest filled with pride, he whistled as he called his wife.
His first commissioned works called for a celebration.
Mason visited the gallery daily for two weeks. His paintings weren't displayed as promised.
His calls went unanswered.
He remembered the uneasy handshake.
