Intended for TradFi Community Members Only - Please See HIVE Dev Community Post

Hi TradFi Team!

So I am saying team because this is a finance community and it is a little funny (and kind of cool) to add some business vibes. This is a community post so I upvoted it and all rewards will be sent to the @TradFi-curator account, so this post will be a little different.

So first, please go look at this post - https://peakd.com/hive/@howo/what-changes-would-you-like-to-see-in-communities

We have an on chain developer who does work for communities. This is a HUGE opportunity for me and by extension a HUGE opportunity for our TradFi community.

One reason I like HIVE is because we have the DHF. The user who made this post is paid through the DHF to do this work and he appears to be very receptive to feedback from stakeholders.

The one thing I want to add to communities is some form of a leaderboard. This is one of the examples that the dev left. But there are other things we can add!

I do want to take some time to apologize to the TradFi community for me being so busy. In a normal world I would have spent WAY more time on this community already. I have "neglected" our community (based on my own standards) because of the standard I tried to follow set by other users that say I should leave a comment when I downvote. I only spend a lot of time downvoting because I leave comments like users ask. I agree now with the other users who say leaving a reason for downvoting is a waste of time.

There are 2 things I currently would like to see from our on chain Dev if it is possible and pragmatic:

  1. Some form a leaderboard. (I would like us to have something simple at first so we can provide reasonable actionable feedback on things we can change to make it better)

  2. I want an easier way to curate member comments.

Please review the post by the dev and leave comments there IF you are passionate about a certain change. If you want to discuss things below on other things you would like to add to communities please let me know in the comments and I will try to add it to my feedback to the dev.

It is very important that this feedback is actionable and reasonable. We can discuss in the comments below if it is possible for your feedback to be actionable and/or reasonable.

Also, leaderboards can have a lot of different iterations. If there is a particular type of leaderboard (related to communities) you think is interesting PLEASE discuss it with me below in the comments. As my community knows, I do enjoy interesting conversations.

I would love to participate. I like the initiatives and the progress we make, and I want them to be visible so we can improve.

Sounds great! I appreciate your enthusiasm!

A leaderboard would be great; it would encourage healthy competition, my friend. I'm in and would love to participate. Sounds great.

I see you engage a lot in this community but you have not requested membership (I am doing it a little differently where people need to request to be a member) please let me know if that’s something you are interested in and I’ll get you added!

I'd love to be a member, I'm signing up. If you accept me, that would be great, friend. I'll read the rules. Thanks.

Sounds good! I’ll get you officially added either today or tomorrow.

Just leaving comments is fine! No need to make blog posts unless that is something you are interested in!

There are a lot of rules (they are actually in the description which I need to fix at some point).

I’m going to refine the rules at some point in the near future.

Cheers!

@suisver you are still able to leave comments in post of course. Just @tradfi-curator curation is usually reserved for members. Sometimes I curate non members with it, just depends on how I'm feeling that day 😅

The most important thing about a community is that it feels alive, with contests and initiatives. Interaction is key; I've participated in communities, but they don't take you seriously. I think sometimes they don't even read the content. I like interaction. I'd like a Discord server where I can ask questions and make suggestions.

A community where it's a pleasure to post because you'll be valued—that's what I'd like to see in a community.

Agreed! I will work towards this! Thank you!

Leadership features sounds good. I think it will be similar to the ecency app where the leaderboard is decided on the basis of its usage per user like votes comments, post etc. (I hope I didn't mix up my English this time)

Yes it does sound like it will be similar to the leaderboard thing on Ecency app. I mostly use Peakd so I can't easily speak to what it looks like on Ecency.

Do you have any particular types of leaderboards you would like to see? Like something that is more social based or more rewards based?

Feedback on " If you want to discuss things below on other things you would like to add to communities please let me know in the comments".

I'll just leave the ideia, but I haven't thought about way to make it work... I think we could do something with the SNAPS. It's a feature already on the communities that could be more used by communities.

SNAPS 💡

Yea snaps for us having short form content discussion would be a good idea. Like maybe we could have chats going on our "featured post of the week or something."

All ideas start somewhere and I am more of a fan of putting yourself out there even if an idea is not "perfect." Constructive actionable feedback (even if negative feedback) is usually very helpful.

Thank you for the idea and I look forward to seeing more of your ideas!

Cheers!

It's even possible to link snaps to what you've mentioned:

"featured post of the week" -> "leaderboard of the week"

Or maybe a post from someone from the leaderboard... (just writing while I'm thinking hehe)

Keep the ideas flowing! I’m loving the energy! Thank you!

Your welcome :)

It's great to see a community like this and I'm glad to help :D

@hurtlocker I've and got an insight about the Snaps!

What about a Daily/Weekly Finance/Economy question to get the opinion of the members of the community about a specific topic? Maybe adding some news too.

For example: In terms of Personal Finance what's your thoughts about the subscription model? Recently tesla announced it'll start to use it for their auto-pilot.

Snap Example: https://peakd.com/hive-124838/@rimurutempest/re-peaksnaps-t8vgtq

That is an interesting idea! Daily/Weekly may be hard to manage right now but that is something we could work towards if more people are interested.

I also do like to try new ideas and if they do not work that's ok. This may be one of those ideas but we should think about it more imo.

Yeah trying a lot of new ideias at the start will not help at all. Snaps are great, but I don't other communities using it at lot, maybe there's a reason for that too...

A leaderboard sounds interesting. But question is will it be based on number of posts done or rewards for posts or number of comments/upvotes? Or a combination of everything?

I am not sure. I would guess we could have a metric and it would all be using the same data. I think average rewards per post would be a good one to reference. If we could have number comments/replies per post that would be a good social metric to have too.

Sounds like a Plan. Good to see some movement towards improving Communities within Hive.

It wouldn't be bad also the list of the members with last post / comment date, to check who is still active... I reckon some communities have members not posting for years, does it make sense to keep them as members?

That is a good idea! Have some type of list that is recent posters in order?

Yep, could be also more generic and be order of recent "activity" (either a post or a comment) to see who's active in the community

probably a second layer token again? I hope you wouldn't get mad with my comment😝

Too soon man. Too soon. 😆

I would like to try my opinion regarding your 2 matters Santa hurt.

  1. Some form a leaderboard. (I would like us to have something simple at first so we can provide reasonable actionable feedback on things we can change to make it better)

This one is a bit tricky to do, probably a form of a counter regarding on how many activities a member of the community shared or did. How to filter and count those is.. I am not expert to those things but i guess it is possible if proposed by the right guy.

  1. I want an easier way to curate member comments.

yeah this one should be address early specially if the members are more than enough to handle by your HP. I guess we could try levelling their category on a badge like or role like things that can be gained by the members activity. If a member qualified the criteria, then it can be granted perks by the community.

Thanks for sharing the post refrence to what changes we did like to see for communities. I had an idea it is kind of a new functionality where the communities have their own token.. like a hive second layer token. I know one can create it via the hive-engine but then the request is Hive blockchain providing that functionlaity. cheers

Yea that's interesting. Like each new community gets their own token automatically?

Only con is then people would create communities for tokens 😅

Maybe this can be restricted tied to hive power needed for the token generation.. Cheers

That makes sense! Good idea!

I believe the DHF should be much more selective. It should only be used to discover new things on the blockchain and only as a complement to a significant investment by the project owner. I don't think a leaderboard adds value.

I appreciate the feedback. I personally still think a leaderboard would be cool to have. I am pretty competitive so I like leaderboards!

Do you need a leaderboard to see that gungunkrishu is winning comfortably?

Me personally? no 🤣

But it would be cool for everyone else to see what is possible! And then we could easily compare ourselves to other communities which I'm more excited about!

I don't think communities should be compared. Each one should be unique; otherwise, the community's existence would be meaningless.

How do you know they are unique unless you compare them?

Greetings to the members of the community. I usually participate in initiatives that have a weekly proposed theme. It would be interesting if this community proposed a weekly theme to those users who want to participate, with or without some kind of incentive, as they deem necessary.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing the idea. If it makes sense for TradFi I will see what all can be implemented. Thank you!

good work, but as always time and reputation will be the judges

I am not big on judges. I think most judges are corrupt irl. Could just be I have had bad experiences but also people naturally let power go to their head. It is hard thing to avoid when being a whale on here. Power is intoxicating.

I regularly revaluate what I am doing and why. I try my best to avoid letting the HP go to my head. That being said, being a whale is pretty awesome sometimes. Having a whale upvote is sick (sick in a good way lol)

I just wish communities got more love in general. The Pub has been getting some good submissions and members, but I still don't feel like it is big enough to bug the curation groups. I think overall we just need more users on the chain, then the communities will grow in turn.

I think more users is more of a chicken vs the egg type of thing. I also would not be surprised if an increase to HIVE price leads to more users and inactive accounts becoming active again.

I do agree communities need more love. I almost feel like if we can make them more like "guilds" in video games that would help in a lot of ways. Friendly competitive can be a huge motivator imo!

I curate two communities. They both are creative communities...making collages, and writing stories. The collage community has a small band of devoted members who simply love to make collages. It's their 'fix'. There aren't a lot of rewards, but that doesn't stop these members from coming back. I think that's a very valuable community, even though it can't compete with others on Hive as far as membership and rewards go.

The second community...writing...has a small curie vote attached so we get more activity. Still, some people come back because they love to write.

I think in the case of each community there is great value. It gives me satisfaction to give feedback to the members. To let them know they are appreciated.

I don't know about comparing and competing. I think there can be a niche that has value without that. Or maybe that's just for creatives :)

Thank you for the long thoughtful comment! I think it is good for me to talk to other people that have experience with communities.

I do think it may just be creatives that do not have the same desire for competition lol. Making art people enjoy is usually enough for an artist. Most people I know that are artists, musicians, comedians, etc. Do it because they love it. That being said, some people love FRIENDLY competition... my included lol... but emphasis on friendly 😅

That's usually the way it works with the price of HIVE. I've seen it through several cycles now.

A leaderboard as in a ranking of users by points? A user would get points for posts and comments in the community, I assume? That's an interesting idea, but it runs up against what exactly would it mean to post in a community? Most communities set a number of tags, and it seems like many of the posts are not actually posted in the community but are shared with multiple communities by using their tags. So in that way, I might write one of my haiku posts and post it in my community, Blockchain Poets, but then using tags I can also "post" it in The Pub, the Japan community, the other poetry community, and so on. Would I get points and appear on the leaderboard of all these communities, or only in the main one I posted to?

I would guess everywhere you post would be included.

I was thinking the leaderboard would be more metric based as opposed to points.

E.g. this community has an average post payout of X rewards per post. Or, this community has this amount of engagement (maybe that’s a metric like total comments and total reply's).

I think automated comments would distort a social metric but I would rather have a starting point vs coming up with the perfect solution is that makes sense.

I think the 2 big questions are, what makes some communities “better” than others? What are some metrics we can use to articulate that?

Leaderboard normally includes post frequency and rewards, but I'm not sure how good that is a measurement of the community quality.

Ideally you'd want an active community with lots of engagement, so comments and replies as the prime metric would be good, as is the spread/concentration of engaged accounts. Also the quality of engagement is important but that's difficult to define, though you could exclude bots and two words comments.

Yea we have talked about different metrics in the comments. I think a social metric if there is a way to exclude bot style behavior from the metric would make the most sense.

The leaderboards could be a game-changer for building community 'stickiness.'

It'll also add that "gameplay" and competition to communities.

To me it seems like an hidden gem!

yeah!It turns passive readers into active participants because everyone likes to see their name move up a list

Hello friend, I haven't been on Hive for very long and I'm not an expert in finance, but I want to grow my account as much as possible. I'd like to be a member of your community and participate for now. If any initiatives come up, I'd like to be involved. Thank you.

Sounds great! I’ll get you added tomorrow!

Gracias 🫂😊😊

If you have a problem with the self upvote going to my community account which is owned by me, please let me know. I am open to burning rewards equal to this post's rewards for this post after the fact if users feel that is wrong for me to upvote my own post.

Thank you!
