Mama and I Made "Cheesy Jackfruit Jam" 🤤🤤🤤

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY2 years ago

From the title above, my mama and I made some cheesy jackfruit jam this afternoon and it turned out pretty well. I can't wait to use it for my breakfast tomorrow.

Yesterday, one of our neighbors gave us some jackfruit. It so happened that my papa also bought some jackfruit earlier that day. Since we have extra jackfruit, mama and I decided to make jam out of it.

It isn't our first time to make jackfruit jam, but we wanted to put a twist into it, so we decided to make it cheesy. Well, we believe that cheese makes any dish more delicious. Not everyone would agree, but for those who like cheese, I'm quite positive about your response. haha

Let's start with the ingredients and followed by the procedure on how we made it. It's pretty simple, so here it is!!!

This is the jackfruit we received from our neighbor. Theyre very kind to share their blessing with us. 😍

Next, we have some grated cheese and brown sugar. The amount of these two ingredients depend on the amount of jackfruit you have or just according to your liking. Also, cheese is optional, but we wanted to experiment. 😅

Those are the ingredients we need and since they're already prepared, let's now start with the procedure. 😊

Prepare the jackfruit for cooking by cutting it into strips. Some people cut it even smaller, but in our case we still want to taste the bits of jackfruit in our jam.

Let's heat our pan!

Once the pan is preheated, we place in our jackfruit strips and start mixing until its juice comes out.

Let's add the brown sugar and mix again...

Optional: Let's add some grated cheese...

IMG20220106165635.jpg

Mix mix mix until you get the consistency that you like. As I've mentioned earlier, we like to still have a taste or feel the jackfruit bits, so we didn't really make it super gooey.

Lastly, place it in a container of your choice.

We tried tasting it earlier and it was really good. The cheese actually complemented the sweetness of brown sugar and the natural taste of jackfruit.

It's fun experimenting on food and I must say, cheese really does make something more amazing. Yes, I'm biased... Sorry... XD

We only tasted the jam earlier, but we're actually saving it for breakfast tomorrow. I hope we'd be able to buy fresh and nice kind of bread. Most bakeries are still closed, so recently we don't really have nice quality bread. If the bakery with yummy stuff opens, people would immediately flock to buy. Buying stuff is a competition these days since there aren't a lot of supply and the prices are crazy. Can't feel the "price freeze" during emergency or calamity at all.. xD

Anyway, we're surviving day by day. I just hope to work soon. Though blogging is a great help to somehow make ends meet, there are still a lot of pending bills and loans to pay. I do hope my internet becomes stable soon.

So much for that, I hope you all have a great time. Take care and see you around!!! 🥰

It looks yummy! I have never seen like that before from jackfruit. I will try it someday.

Yes... you may do so... :) You can try the original "cheese-less" one, too! <3

Very bizarre but interesting, I don't think I've ever heard of cheese ever going in a jam, but then again I've never heard of anyone mixing jackfruit with cheese either. Dairy products aren't a part of Khmer cuisine, so butter, milk, and cheese aren't used in Cambodian cooking traditionally.

I am a vegan so I can't taste, but I remember in Ecuador a popular snack was grilled plantains with cheese. I can imagine how certain types of cheeses could compliment sweet flavors though. Very creative of you chef 👩‍🍳.

It was actually our first time doing so, but no regrets at all. It complemented the jam pretty well. haha

Ohh.. I'm curious... what do you use instead of cheese? I mean... I like almond milk and other plant-based milk... but I'm crazy about cheese. haha

Ohh.. that sounds good! Do you know "banana saba"? We often cook it into various snack food like barbaque with sugar, grilled with margarine, etc. My mama and I once made banana turon with jackfruit and cheese. I'll try to share the recipe one day. ^^

This is my first time seeing jam made from jackfruit 😅😅

How does it taste like?

Really? I thought it's quite common in countries with jackfruit... It's similar to jackfruit taste but sweeter... In this case, we added some cheese, so it's creamier than usual jams...

Yes... we have tried banana turon with jackfruit and cheese before, but it's our first time to make jackfruit jam with cheese. It was amazing! haha
