I would say that it would depend on the extra value earnt when playing the gold foil. You can always level up the standard to the same point, for all the pros you've given, for a cheaper initial outlay. You could also keep a single unlevelled card for the distance ruleset, _{which is actually advice I should take myself, now I've levelled mine up.}

Over time, I guess the gold foil would pay for itself in the higher DEC earnings. Maybe you should get one of each and cover yourself for the distance.
