Nearly there
I wrote a post a fortnight ago shortly before I went on holidays. I was going away for 4 nights with the lads, so I decided to get some jobs done around the house before I went.
Twelve of us getting away, most with children is a good measure of how cool our wives are. I think that's why I made start on the sitting room revamp before I took off gor Lanzarote.
The post below oulines what I got done during phase 1 of the project.

Project Details
Our sitting room was actually absolutely fine, but it was a pretty plain colour and the light fittings were very dated, so we decided that it needed a face-lift.
My wife picked out this colour, which I never would have chosen and it turned out lovely, she has a great eye for that kind of thing, sure hoe else would she have picked me out like?! 🤪
The light fittings below replaced older dimmer type fittings and I soon learned that dimmer switches can't be used with LED lights, so I was going to need another switch to replace the dimmers.
I have worked with plenty of AC and DC power as a telecommunications engineer over the years, so working with power doesn't phase me.
Did ya like that! Sorry..... Nerd joke
But one thing I'd never had to do was rewire a switch, but sure there's a first time for everything. I killed the power at the fusebox and unscrewed it. The first thing thought was:
Who in the world wired this!!!!
Live wires galore and not a neutral in sight!!
Then I remembered the neutral is at the light fitting side and is not connected at the switch at all.
So that's another job ticked off the to do list, but it's also added a job, as I scuffed the paint work a little taking it off, so I'll need to touch that up with a little art paintbrush. Luckily I have some paint left over.
New Lights
Here are the new light fittings in place with the correct non dimmer switch.
The Fireplace
You'll remember from the first post that we wanted to paint the fireplace a different colour and this is what my wife had picked out:
Once again she has come up trumps with the colour and I think it's going to end up looking lovely. Here are a few photos after the first coat.
Inside Plants
There was a bit of a battle of wills around indoor plants which I won out in the end and I must say the plant definitely adds to the look and feel of the room.
Phase 3
Next up I will be giving the fireplace two more coats of paint and making a start on the shelving unit.
The suite of furniture still needs to be ordered but it's looking likely to be an L shaped fabric one we opt for instead of leather this time around.
We are also toying with the idea of mounting the telly on the chimney breast - more to follow!
