Greenhouse Gardening on The Homestead

Greenhouse gardening!!!! I am so excited this year to take a bat at greenhouse gardening for the first time ever. I am incredibly grateful that my little homestead came with a small greenhouse. There was one dreadful thing about it though…it was a DISASTER inside. I’m pretty sure gardening attempts had been started because I had found age old seed starting cups and trays filled with dirt that was dryer than the Sahara Desert and probably ridden with disease.

Calculating the mess in my head, I supposed two dumpster fills and a few hours and I would have the greenhouse back up and running—I was wrong. Two dumpster fills were indeed not enough, who would have thought? A part of me couldn’t help but be a little sad at the state of this magnificent greenhouse. I knew in her prime she shone brightly and housed growing, magnificent plants. Or maybe she never got the chance? I feel as if I am revitalizing the life of this dilapidated greenhouse, and I can’t wait to show her the respect she deserves. I’m starting to see a pattern on the homestead—buildings dilapidated and me building them back to their prime.

Come early spring, I plan to start my tomatoes and peppers inside and transition them to the greenhouse when warm enough and the sun is shining. I’m new to greenhouse gardening, so I still have to research how to properly utilize it. Greenhouses extend the gardening season, which is great for someone like me with a short gardening season. I eat tomatoes and peppers on the regular, so it only makes sense that I grow plenty in my fresh greenhouse. This winter I went into the greenhouse on a cold but sunny day and was pleasantly surprised to be met with a warm inside! I laughed at my surprise because duh—that’s how greenhouses work!

Can’t wait to use mine!

Q what cam and mic do you use to blog like this? have a nice night

As crazy as it might sound I'm using my new iphone lol it's been working out great for 4k recording compared to the dedicated cameras I use to use that record in 1080p.

As much as I can't eat tomatoes, I am looking forward to seeing what your greenhouse is going to produce like.

I recommend at sometime getting into hydroponics as well because you'll produce even more if you do it right.

Hello @gubbatv. What a lovely greenhouse you have. It looks so neat. I can see lots of veggies being grown there. So you're new to homesteading? I've seen a couple of shows on television geared toward homesteading and how difficult it is to get it up and running.

Good luck with your homestead and greenhouse. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the kind words and encouragement, I appreciate it!
