"He's not the first one to gamble on that end stall next to the clothing outlet, and he won't be the last. Why do those people think a spot on the opposite end from the other food vendors will work?" Eddie heard loudly from the crowd as he continued to batter the fish. Irked, he glanced up in time to see several passersby cover their mouths and chuckle.

Eddie might not have been the first to put faith in that location, but his research into the area's growth had served him well in his year of operating his fish and chips food truck.

Besides, he was the only vendor to add a tall eating table for his customers to place their food and drinks upon while eating. Often customers would comment about the convenience he offered as they returned for a second order or another item on the menu.

That was the secret to Eddie's success.

So he endured the jeers and laughter of his oddly placed food truck. The business supported himself and his wife. But he did need to expand and bring in more customers for long term success.

He immediately smiled and continued frying fish as his wife handled the orders.

At the end of the day, he and his wife relaxed while he outlined plans for expansion. He would purchase two additional tables, this time six foot moveable banquet style with enough space to accommodate a minimum of twenty customers each.

He pulled out his camera. Pictures of the empty lots behind the market displayed several large excavating equipment and workers.

"What's going on there?" Annie inquired.

"I've been checking every few weeks. The new camping resort planned by year end appears on schedule."

"What does the camping resort have to do with you?" Puzzled, this was the first she had heard of her husband's newest idea.

"I'm going to meet with the camp owner and make sure our food truck business is listed as possible eatery nearby for their visitors. It's within walking distance, which makes it even more convenient. And I'm going to expand the menu."

"That may mean hiring additional staff. In any event, I feel we should have placed our truck on the end of the market or chose another location altogether. Don't base all your plans on other individuals' situations occurring first. It doesn't always work out that way. At the minimum, we need a backup plan, just in case." Annie tried to be supportive.

She realized Eddie was the "big picture" entrepreneur. She hated tossing doubt wrenches into his plans each time her husband brought fresh ideas for her consideration. But someone had to filter through the details. Bankruptcy or losing their assets was the last thing she wanted to endure.

Despite Annie's misgiving, during the next few months, Eddie forged ahead with his plans to purchase additional equipment. Her worked on expanding the menu, then spoke to a hiring agency.

One morning as he opened his truck for business, he noticed equipment and workers were not on site in the rear of the market.

He closed down his truck, then headed across the walkway.

Eddie's heart sank. He learned that plans for the resort had been abandoned by the current developer. No one could confirm whether alternate arrangements were being considered.

With his shoulders hunched forward, he dug his hands deep within his pockets and headed back toward the market.

Busy preparing for the day's customers, Eddie didn't notice the market's owner arrive.

"New vendor terms and conditions with additional restrictions taking place first of the year," the tall, heavily-bearded guy explained, then paused for a moment, waiting for Eddie's response.

Already disillusioned over the abandonment of the proposed camping site, with a bitter smile, Eddie silently accepted the document and turned back toward his truck.

Throughout the day, Eddie tossed his business options back and forth as he emptied the frying basket. Even with the minor setbacks, he was adamant about remaining in his current site pad. He would just have to come up with another plan to attract customers to his food truck.

A month later, clear skies turned ominous as a severe thunderstorm pushed heavy wind gusts across the market area.

Eddie and his wife were notified that their business may have been affected. However, management would not allow any vendors to enter onto the property to assess damages.

With heavy hearts, they waited, praying their truck wasn't damaged. Shaking her head, Annie's thoughts turned to the new table equipment recently purchased. She envisioned them strewn over the area. Locating them would be impossible. They failed to label the equipment.

Disenchanted, Eddie looked up with hands raised in the "why me?" position, then collapsed them onto his face as he cradled his head in his hands.

Annie's attempt to console her husband fell on deaf ears.

"Throwing good money after bad. This was such a waste," he lamented while pacing.

Once management allowed vendors to return to their businesses, they surveyed the market. Nothing but debris and destruction as they rode down the lane toward their food truck.

Annie was the first to notice the clothing stall was untouched. She prayed and hoped as she peered further down the lane. Stopping quickly, they hurried from the car and stood in front of their food truck. Still intact with only a broken window, they hugged each other and cried.

They storm hit on the opposite end of the market where the majority of the vendor stalls were located.

Eddie bent down on one knee and gave thanks that his truck was spared. He prayed for the other vendors.

Then his thoughts turned to his wife. He would finally listen.

She had already suggested another food truck location that specialized only in food truck vendors. A type of consortium. The location was also on the opposite side of town where the weather patterns throughout the years tended to avoid cutting through that area.

Eddie still desired to stick with his current location and expand with new tables for seating his customers, but he would not expand his menu nor hire an assistant.

He would wait to see what type of business would replace the camping site proposal. Perhaps it would still work in his favor. His new method of doing business would now include considering his wife's suggestions.

Learning to become detail oriented was placed on the menu.

Welcome back to my freewrite prompt story for this week. The photo that is the subject of the story spoke to me about a person who owns a food truck in a market that may encounter difficulties.

Describe what you see.
The area resembles some type of farmer's or other market. Clear skies on that day. The sun is out as I can see shadows on the paved walkway. Tall, thin trees line the back of the market. A food truck vendor is in the foreground. The food being served is fish and fish products since there are fish images on the inside wall of the business. Customers are ordering food. One customer is eating his food at a table. Down the paved walkway are other vendor stalls. One of the stalls visible is a clothing outlet.

Describe what you feel.
I feel as though business at the fish food truck is good. Serveral customers stand in line waiting to be served. The seafood perhaps is tasty. Patrons at the food truck are wearing jackets. I feel that although the sun is shining and clear skies are out, the weather is brisk. There appears a customer visiting the clothing stall next to the food truck. This perhaps a local market where the people in the area frequent and is accessible to all.

Write a story or poem about what you think is going on. I leave with you my story for: A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words - 9/8/23.

A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words - 9/8/23.

Camión de comida Eddie's Fish and Chips

This is such a nice story. I really took my time to read it. I'm glad that their food stall and every other thing did not get broken apart from the window that got broken and this has given Eddie the mindset of listening to his wife

Hello @rafzat. What lovely words for my story. I'm pleased you like it and how the situation turned out. It could have been worse. Eddie's decision to place his food truck away from the others saved his business. But he still needed to listen and plan more, thinking about the details of his business and his strategy going forward.

Difficulty happen in one's life for a reason. Taking time to discover what needs to change is key to surviving. Also, listening to one's spouse is key on a personal level in keeping harmony. That person may have some good advice that will help.

The important thing is that one has to learn in order to survive and move forward.

Thanks so much for your visit. Take care.

It is a very wonderful story that happens when a person is working hard but does not get success but is worried if not, we have seen that many people have progressed in the same way.

Hi @djbravo. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your kind compliment for my freewrite story. I'm pleased you liked its theme. The teen, Raef, did work hard to please his family so that they could move into a larger hut. How brave and selfless he portrayed in undertaking the journey.

When one works hard for their accomplishments, then it is well deserved.

I appreciate your support. Take care.

Most welcome dear.
