Sydney is the most populous and built up city in Australia... and they are pretty good at telling the rest of us how awesome they are! Sure, they can be awesome, just stay in Sydney... and stay awesome there!
I find that the city itself is pretty busy... and uncomfortably so... lots of busy people rushing around, and I find it just too much to be around. Lots of inequity as well, lots of homeless right next to boutique shops... and the suburbs where most people live, well are definitely quite the postcard perfect harbour views that the richer parts of Sydney live in.
But all of that aside, the CBD doesn't have much park space... aside from the harbour area, and the Botanic Gardens. The CBD itself only has this little two small block area of memorial park near the St James and Museum train stations on the City loop.
... and there are some nice views off to the side, such as the large Cathedral of St Mary's... and the school that is also nearby... both older colonial structures, and quite emblematic of old wealth!
Much of the memorials in the park are for past wars... the World Wars and such-like... and it seems weird to have the main city structures intrude on a what is supposed to be a peaceful space!
But there are moments... even if you can't always get a seat... or you have to share the space with TikTokkers doing dances...
... and there is this weird busy split right down the middle as well! Honestly, just reclaim the road and make the park a proper park!
... I guess that this particular photo sums it up for me. The ANZAC memorial... a beautiful building and memorial... but flanked and overshadowed by apartment and business blocks. Yuck...
